The iconic Stowe Country Club has reopened after a massive redesign, albeit now as a private course for the first time in its more than seven decades.

The club, founded in 1950, just completed a makeover by Tiger Woods design associate Beau Welling.

The renovation included rebuilding all greens and tees, reshaping fairways, modernizing bunkers and upgrading irrigation systems.

“This initiative, part of a broader vision for Stowe as a four-season resort, also saw the club transition to a private facility,” reports Forbes.com. “The redesign, which began over a decade ago and expanded post-pandemic, aims to honor the course’s history.”

The club sits on land that was once the historic Le Liberté dairy farm, dating back to the early 20th century.

The previously public 76-year-old course embarked on a full redesign two years ago.

Plans are now underway for a new clubhouse, practice facility, racquet sports and aquatics.

Membership is by application only.

“As we continue to grow our membership roster, we are offering a very limited number of unaccompanied guest tee times,” the club says on its website. “After you submit the form, a member of our golf professional team will contact you regarding availability at the club’s discretion.”

The only other play option for non-members is paying for a stay at The Lodge at Spruce Peak.
