Scientists avoid ‘awkward’ Wuihan question

By John McClaughry

Nicholas Wade, formerly a senior science reporter at the New York Times, issued a dazzling investigative report last week on the origins of the COVID virus. He leans to the conclusion that COVID somehow escaped from the Wuhan laboratory, although the case isn’t closed yet.

“Nor have other scientists stepped forward to raise the issue. Government research funds are distributed on the advice of committees of  scientific experts drawn from universities. Anyone who rocks the boat by raising awkward political issues runs the risk that their grant will not be renewed and their research career will be ended.”

But also of interest is his analysis of how the virology community and the mainstream media failed to raise awkward questions about the official stories of COVID’s origins.

“Nor,” Wade writes, “have other scientists stepped forward to raise the issue. Government research funds are distributed on the advice of committees of  scientific experts drawn from universities. Anyone who rocks the boat by raising awkward political issues runs the risk that their grant will not be renewed and their research career will be ended.”

“Science reporters, unlike political reporters, have little innate skepticism of their sources’ motives; most see their role largely as purveying the wisdom of scientists to the unwashed masses. So when their sources won’t help, these journalists are at a loss.”

“Another reason, perhaps, is the migration of much of the media toward the left of the political spectrum. Because President Trump said the virus had escaped from a Wuhan lab, editors gave the idea little credence.”

Wade might have said the exact same thing about the climate science reporters, who breathlessly repeat the scare stories they are being fed by the climate science establishment.

  1. The list of society’s institutions that have been utterly corrupted and deligitimized by political correctness is long, including journalism, kindergarten through college education and more recently law enforcement and criminal justice. Science has been nibbled at over the years by PC such as the American Psychological Association’s reclassification and mainstreaming of behaviors and lifestyles formerly considered aberrant. When the scientific community can no longer be counted on to discover and publish facts without “social justice” bias, then we are all in big trouble.
We the people who inhabit this planet have a right to know the origins and implications of this GLOBAL pandemic without the inherent bias and politicization that exists throughout the mainstream media today…just the facts, please.

  2. i can believe it escaped from Wuhan but i want them to admit this research started in America and then was moved to China when people complained that the research was a bad idea due to risk. Fauci approved money from his budget for research in both countries

  3. Nobody wants, or in most cases deserves to be called a Xenophob, but that is what would happen, even where the murder is caught on video, the suspect pulling the trigger, gun smoking, and body falling to the ground. It’s just the kind of gutless, politically correct world we live in.
