A 66-year-old motorcyclist from Bradford was killed Thursday night after crashing into a utility pole on U.S. Route 5 in Fairlee, according to the Vermont State Police.

The crash was reported at about 10:42 PM on July 2 near the intersection of U.S. Route 5 and Mountain Road. Troopers responded along with members of the Bradford and Fairlee fire departments and Upper Valley Rescue, who were providing emergency medical care when first responders arrived.

Police said the rider, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was operating a 2001 Honda motorcycle northbound on Route 5 when the motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a telephone pole.

The weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information is asked to contact the Vermont State Police St. Johnsbury Barracks at 802-748-3111.
