A Hinesburg man, who has been involved in a recent crime spree across multiple communities, was jailed on multiple charges on Thursday, the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department said.

Ryan S. Orvis, 38, of Hinesburg, is facing various criminal charges, including the theft of $8,000 in tools during a burglary at a construction project inside Mater Christi School on Mansfield Avenue in Burlington, the sheriff’s department said.

He was lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans Town on charges of burglary, grand larceny and receiving stolen property as part of the Burlington case, Detective Paul McManus of the Street Crimes Unit of the Sheriff’s Office said.

Orvis also is facing an unrelated charge of retail theft from a drug store in Hinesburg earlier this week, McManus said.

Bail is $2,500 and Orvis is due for arraignment on Monday in Vermont Superior Court.

Orvis is a suspect in several other Chittenden County crimes, including a major theft in South Burlington and a vandalism in Williston, McManus said.

Detectives from the Street Crimes Unit of the Sheriff’s Office have been working with Hinesburg and Williston Police following multiple crime reports in several communities throughout Chittenden County, Sheriff Dan Gamelin said.

McManus was able to recover some of the stolen tools during an eviction case and eventually linked it to a truck, Gamelin said. Hinesburg Police reported it had stopped the suspect for a traffic offense and identified the driver for McManus.

More investigation was conducted and soon other cases were tied in, officials said.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as investigators continue to review evidence, McManus said.

Anyone with information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Office at (802) 863-4341.
