Letters: Party unity, anti-hunting bill

Party Unity! – Many Republicans like myself have been admonished to observe “party unity” for very good reasons.  We are a team and a team divided against itself is bound to fail.  This means that even when party leaders make decisions with which I disagree I must at least quietly support and certainly not oppose them.

For example, if my governor is taking positions that I disagree with I must support him as long as he is in office- or at least not publicly oppose him.  To be consistent, of course, my governor needs to support our candidate for president especially if that candidate has garnered overwhelming support from the party.  Interestingly, party unity is sometimes totally forgotten in some cases.  Is this a random error?  If I am not mistaken it seems that the calls for party unity are readily made when the dissenters are on the right- the MAGA conservative elements of the party.  Not so much when the objections are coming from the more liberal Republicans.

For the record I vote for and support all candidates in the Republican party, including those with whom I profoundly disagree.

The situation in Vermont is dire and clear.  Dem/Prog policies dominate every nook and cranny of the government.  As the Marxist prescriptions for America are accepted our state is being steered over a disastrous cliff!  Fortunately, the USA is not uniformly following the same path.  There is good reason to believe that the country will be saved from the Marxist project of national “transformation”.  The short term prospects for Vermont are not so good but Vermont does have one huge redeeming feature- every office holder has to face the voters every 2 years.  I find great hope in this.  The course that Vermont is on will result in manifest human suffering and failure.  As ordinary people compare life here with much of the country they will wake up to the true situation.  They will understand the lies they have been fed by left wing politicians and the complicit media.  They will seek replacements.  My only concern is that MAGA Vermonters will not be prepared to carry out the very demanding work of government.

Some may wonder why I am so willing to work with a party that is not completely in line with my convictions.  The answer is simple: The government of America is based on a 2-party system.  Whether we like it or not, the RNC and DNC enjoy special privileges that no other organizations can match.  The policies of the RNC hold positions are clearly closer to the principles and values of the Declaration of Independence.  This is my yard stick.  As an example of what we must take care of, the veto-proof Dem/Prog majority in the Vermont legislature must be eliminated by electing Republicans even if we are not entirely in agreement.  Any Republicans that are willing to run deserve our substantial support. – Ed Wheeler, Middlebury

S.258 anti-hunting, anti-fishing, anti-trapping – I am deeply disturbed by recent efforts by our local Senators, Christopher Bray, Bristol, and Ruth Hardy, Middlebury, to write legislation to remove the responsibility of the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Board in cooperation with our Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department’s sole mission to manage healthy wildlife and fish populations throughout Vermont.

Bill S.258, written by Bray and Hardy, is an anti-hunting, anti-fishing, and anti-trapping effort. These two Addison County Senators wrote S.258 as an attempt to dismantle the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Board and place critical wildlife and fisheries management decisions in the hands of those not connected to outdoor pursuits, ie. “non-consumptive users.” This bill will essentially allow anti-hunting, anti-fishing, and anti-trapping activists to rewrite hunting and fishing laws and seasons and make critical choices in the management of Vermont wildlife and fish populations. Let me make this clear. Anti-hunting, anti-trapping, and anti-Fishing activists could be making the rules.

Let me give you more background on S.258. The bitter truth unknown to most Vermonters is that Bray and Hardy’s bill was not brought about by local dismay of hunting, fishing, and trapping, but in cooperation with a radical closet animal rights group called Protect Our Wildlife, POW. For many years, POW has been struggling for traction to change the statewide rules on coyote hunting and an all-out ban on trapping in Vermont. POW activists have attended Fish & Wildlife Board meetings for years in an attempt to change hunting and trapping laws. For the most part, their efforts have been deflected by sound judgment by the board and the professional biologists of the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department,

POW is a closet radical anti-hunting and anti-trapping animal rights group with ideals consistent with the global animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA. Check out either of their websites. Any reasonable person can see their mission. They do not represent the current and historical views of Addison County residents and Vermonters. These groups use emotions and fear tactics to drive their mission to deny hunting, fishing and trapping to all.

Nationwide, Vermont has one of the highest per-capita participation rates in hunting, fishing and trapping. This fact is undeniable. Even if you yourself don’t hunt, fish, or trap, more than likely you have relatives, friends and colleagues who do. Responsible hunting, fishing, and trapping are healthy outdoor activities that thousands of Vermonters enjoy and also bring multi-millions in revenues to Vermont’s economy.

Now appears S.258, a bill introduced by our current Senators Bray and Hardy. The language of this bill is a complete reflection of POW and their anti-hunting and anti-trapping sentiment. This is not coincidence. These are facts.

Are Bray and Hardy in tight with POW? I say beyond a reasonable doubt. Brenda Galdenzi, the ringleader of POW, couldn’t have written this bill any better. Why, Senators Bray and Hardy are you writing anti-hunting, anti-trapping, and anti-fishing bills contrary to the current and historic beliefs of Vermonters?

My recent efforts to elicit a response from Bray or Hardy have not worked. If Bray or Hardy will not comment publicly on their reasoning for writing S.258, it speaks measures of their character or ability to write laws that benefit the citizens of Vermont. – Fred Schroeder, Bristol

  1. Team:
a group of people who perform interdependent tasks to work toward accomplishing a common mission or specific objective.

So now we specify the objective… In your case you’re saying that it’s to oust the marxist progressive policies. Sure, I can go along with that. It’s broad. It’s not too specific, and it’s certainly would make all of our lives better.

Unfortunately, what do you do when the Republican supports the very Marxist policies that you oppose thereby throwing the objective out the window? You would remove that person from the team because they clearly don’t have the same objective, just like you’d remove a football player from a team if they kept purposely scoring for the other team.

You’re a smart man. Ed, but I’m surprised to see you go along with the big tent philosophy.

  2. You’re concerned republicans wont be able to handle the job? In my opinion, the best thing an elected republican could do is get elected, attempt to immediately dismantle some of the radicle stuff affecting the livelihood of vermonters and then just stay out of the way of the people and the free market. Let us fix the problems. The elected official’s role is to ensure no further policies are created that are detrimental to the people. The problems come from people that get elected with grand ideas of monumental change. Just stay out of the way. Ensure the government stays out of our way.

  3. Some Vermonters tend to gaslight themselves thinking Vermont is protected by a bubble or cocoon and sheltered from world or national events. This time in our history is like no other. The implications of going along to get along are deadly. The unification is happening, but not as many tend or want to believe – it’s global, not national. All the boats of Western nations are tied together, and those ties that bind are unraveling and fraying under insurmountable debt and decades of deceit. It is called the great awakening for a reason. Soon, many will have to come to grips with reality and stop pretending the status quo exists or a return to “normal” is possible. There is no normal to return to – we crossed that Rubicon and now it’s a battle of epic Biblical proportions. Nothing can stop what is coming – not matter what the enemy attempts at this juncture – it is no longer in their control and currently not in ours either – buckle up and get prepared.

  4. Re: For the record I vote for and support all candidates in the Republican party, including those with whom I profoundly disagree.

It’s a shame Mr. Wheeler that King Nikki Scott the 1st Eunuch King of Castrati doesn’t subscribe to your line of thinking. What’s really a surprise is that you’re that naive to realize that the Vermont Republican Party has been infiltrated by the dem/progs you know are destroying the country. What you are saying you would vote for one of these Commiecrats as long as they are put up by the party and have an R next to their name. You sir, are enabling them.

    • My experiences while being groomed by M*rina Br*wn gave me appalling insight into tactics of infiltration with the purpose of undermining.A number of elections have already been turnes. Antifa isn’t merely irresponsible teenagers. There hardcore come in all ages. They love violence for its own sake and bully even women and old people when they think that they can get away with it. They practice the dirtiest of politics.

    • The RNC and VT GOP are corporations serving and responsible only to their donors. Likewise the DNC does the same. At no point in the last 40 years has this not been the case.
There has not been a truly conservative president in 40 years, since Reagan. Only since Trump in 2015 joined the race have things become exposed for us to see. The attacks to prevent Trump started in 2015 and continue today, to deny him the presidency yet again- and squelch any that might try to bring MAGA in the spotlight, just as the Tea Party was 2 decades ago. The RNC/DNC Clubs are rightfully fearful of- and threatened by Trump, MAGA and what we represent and seek for the US going forward.
For phil scott and the VT GOP, MAGA is the enemy. Trump represents and is the voice of MAGA, therefore Trump and what he represents must be eradicated in order to further the corporations goals. Talk of unity only applies in so much as the GOP supplication to majority DNC politicians and corporate interests. All this “Uniparty” talk isn’t fantasy. It exists even here in Vermont. Remove the pretense and pretending from the politicians and all becomes clear.

  5. Imagine how much better we would be if people supported Pres. Trump when he got elected instead of joining the Trump Derangement Team. Trump did a great job despite all the false claims against him and the negative media. I know I was better off when Trump was President than I am now. I do blame Pres. Biden for high grocery prices and the high price of gas. These are the things that affect me. I do not blame Trump for the failure of the so-called excellent border deal. It was a terrible deal. The media repeats over and over false claims about Trump that we know aren’t true. The media blames Trump for everything. Obviously , the people are not buying the media’s crap. People all across America are supporting Trump because we know Maga Republicans are wonderful ,caring, people and want what is right for our country.

    • They can’t support Pres. Trump because they know he would return the power back to the people as it should be. When he becomes president again, he is going to do the best he can to get rid of all of the corruption the Commiecrats thrive on.

  6. My hope for Vermont (from someone in another northeastern blue state) is that the demographics are still generally good compared to many other places. And people should not always fall into the trap of Trump vs. anti-Trump. Look at the bigger picture. Trump is not winning Vermont and in 2025 he’ll be either president or retired. I support him but there are people with principled objections to him. The bigger issue is are you willing to take the fight to the radical left in Vermont and hammer the leaders for their policies. Can Republicans eat into the supermajority? Can Malloy go from 28 percent to 35 or 40? You always have to start somewhere.

  7. If anyone supports a senile babbling corrupt old fool ” Joe Biden ” good luck, as you can see the current bloated debt from frivolous spending programs, inflation hurting everyday Americans, and an open border that has affected every state’s economy including,” Blue State’s ” that support this senile clown.

They can’t win fairly, so they cheat, and the current condition of the nation is what happens when they win………… Hope you’re enjoying it !!
