Eden man dies 16 days after crash, driver gets added charges

An 80-year-old passenger in an August 13 crash died Tuesday, August 29. Police have added “death resulting” to charges already filed against the driver, a 28-year-old Springfield, MA man.

After troopers arrived at the single-vehicle crash scene on Braintree Hill Road in Braintree, police were speaking with the operator when he fled the scene and crashed a short distance from the original crash scene. Multiple passengers were transported for their injuries. The male operator refused to identify himself.

He was later identified as Pedro Guadalupe of Springfield, MA. A passenger in the vehicle, 80-year-old Raymond Martin of Eden, was transported to Gifford Medical Center with serious injuries including a broken back and rib fractures and later transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Martin died at the hospital on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023.

Mr. Guadalupe is facing charges of eluding a police officer, grossly negligent operation with death resulting, duty to stop and reckless endangerment in connection with this incident. The Vermont State Police is working with the Orange County State’s Attorney’s Office on this case.

Police do not say why Martin, two juveniles, Heather Quinn, 39, of Randolph, and Michael Vell, 46, of Lexington SC, were in the 2019 Jeep Compass driven by Guadalupe.  The children suffered minor injuries, the adult passengers besides Martin suffered none.

State police encourage anyone with information that could assist investigators to call the Royalton Barracks at 802-234-9933 or leave an anonymous tip online at https://vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.

  1. There are so many lovely visitors – or should I say invaders – into the Green Mountain State from very specific locales in Massachusetts, NY, and Connecticut over the last few years. As I once attempted to explain to self-described “natives” decades ago, the monied, BMW-driving, law-abiding suburban soccer moms moving here that you resent so much aren’t the real threat to you in VT……but I’ll describe to you who is…… Most Vermonters laughed at the idea of gangsters, cartels, & druggies infiltrating the state.

And guess what has helped & will continue to? “Affordable” housing; now termed “workforce” housing. It destroyed Bennington and Pownal, VT. completely, and the idiot elected officials think they’re getting “free” money for their towns from the State & the Feds. And the electorate keeps voting for them. Again, the free market has historically determined Real Estate property values, not the government. “Workforce” Housing is YOUR ticket to forced “diversity” and MORE governmental control!

Vermont is doomed. There’s no way to fix this mentality at this point. I truly don’t see any way to turn this around.

  2. Maybe it is the single moms bringing their baby-daddies with them. I dread the visiting-nurse apartments being built in my neighborhood b/c I just know the types these women will be bringing home. None of them will be father material.
