Burlington police are searching for three suspected juveniles following an alleged knife assault Thursday afternoon on the Burlington Bike Path near North Beach.
Police responded at about 1:25 PM August 14 to a disturbance involving an adult man and three suspected juvenile males just north of North Beach.
During the confrontation, a knife was displayed and an attempt was made to physically harm the man, according to Burlington Police. The man suffered minor injuries, and his bicycle tire was slashed with the knife.
Police said the identities of the three suspected juveniles remain unknown. Two reportedly were riding e-motos and the third was riding an e-bike.
Police are investigating the incident as aggravated assault and unlawful mischief.
The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact Burlington Police Officer Maeve O’Donnell.

Need more information on the details. Are these juveniles just riding around accosting people – were they called out for riding power bikes on the bike path? Either way I don’t approve of the damage to the tire.
In the 21st century, at least the biker gangs are environmentally responsible.
We have age and sex reported as demographic descriptions as well as their method of transportation. Any other “overt characteristics” that may be helpful in apprehending them?

Yeah e-bikes should not be allowed (I think they’re not) on the bike path, because they are a motorized vehicle. The only motorized vehicle that is/should be allowed on a sidewalk or bike path would be a handicap conveyance. As to the knife threat, as a responsible conceal carry citizen, that would most likely have ended without a shot fired, but may have required a change of underwear for one or more of the assailants.
E-bikes seem to be allowed on the bike path, a/k/a the inclusive everything-bagel path, in Newport. And it annoys the pith outta me to no end. And I do suggest anyone normal using the path to carry protection 100%.
There’s a big difference between the e-bikes that you have to pedal to turn on, and the ones that are just motorbikes, like you said. I am mindful when I ride my pedal-assist and slow down and ring my bell when approaching walkers from behind.
If you disallow pedal-assist bikes, soon the only bikers you’ll have left are kids and the semi-professional ones who tend to go really fast. And then If you really want to take that thought to the extreme, in a way it would be a form of age discrimination.
I’ve had more problems with loose dogs on the Newport bike path than e-bikes. Good thing dog repellant spray also works on humans.
The place it happened is irrelevant. If a person or persons brandishes a knife, baseball bat, tire iron, fists etc. that is threat of death or serious bodily harm. My responsibility is to get home with the ability to provide for my family. I can’t assume a kid coming at me with a knife is just going to vandalize my bicycle for fun. This is common sense, or used to be anyway. The strong prey on the weak. Defend yourself.
