The Democratic Socialists of America present themselves as champions of fairness and economic justice. But behind the appealing slogans lies a political vision that would move America away from the principles that made it the freest, most prosperous nation in history.
America did not become an economic superpower because Washington controlled business. It became great because ordinary people were free to dream, invest, invent, build businesses, own property, and reap the rewards of their hard work. Our Founders understood that liberty and economic freedom go hand in hand. A government powerful enough to control the economy is ultimately powerful enough to control far more.
The DSA advocates dramatically expanding government’s role throughout American life. They want to defund law enforcement, abolish the U.S. Constitution, the jails, the Presidency, the U.S. Senate, free speech, private property rights, our sovereign borders, Immigration laws.and more. They’ve already destroyed the American family, our public schools, non-profits, and more. The Democrat Socialist supporters see these policies as necessary reforms. I believe they would replace opportunity with dependency and private initiative with political control. History repeatedly demonstrates that as government grows, individual freedom shrinks.
Capitalism is not perfect. No system created by imperfect human beings ever will be. But Free Markets have accomplished what socialism never has: creating unprecedented prosperity, rewarding innovation, lifting millions of people out of poverty, and giving generations of Americans the chance to achieve the American dream.
The answer to America’s challenges is not more bureaucracy, more regulation, and more government control. It is restoring the principles that built this nation—limited government, Constitutional liberty, private property, free enterprise, secure borders, and personal responsibility..
The Constitution was designed to limit government, not empower it to direct every aspect of American life. Our checks and balances, independent courts, Congress, and Federal system exist to prevent the concentration of power in any one political movement. Those safeguards deserve to be preserved, not weakened whenever they stand in the way of someone’s political agenda.
Americans should look beyond campaign slogans and ask a simple question: Do we want more Freedom or more government? Do we trust families, workers, entrepreneurs, churches, charities, and local communities to solve problems—or do we believe government knows best?
For nearly 250 years, the United States has proven that Freedom works. Free people create opportunity. Free-Markets create prosperity. Limited government protects liberty.
We should not abandon the very principles that made America the richest, most innovative, and one of the world’s most generous nations. Instead, we should defend them with confidence.
The choice before Vermonters and America is the bigger than any single election. It is a choice between expanding government power or preserving individual liberty. I know which future I choose: the Constitution, free enterprise, limited government, and the enduring promise of the American Dream.

Free market capitalism? Recently the president said oil companies “made too much money” from high prices (caused by his war of choice) and should lower prices–a statement that would be labeled communist if a Democrat said it.
Meanwhile the price of oil dances this way or that depending on what he tweets on any given day. If anything has kept gas prices from skyrocketing, it’s his countless X posts claiming “the Strait is open” and peace deals are being finalized.
But you can’t manipulate markets forever, and once our SPR hits tank bottoms this fall, we’ll see what the “free market” really can do. It won’t be pretty.
The high gas prices will take a back seat in the news if Iran releases a dirty nuke bomb in New York City or Philly. Vermont will go back to hosting disaster refugees, just like during COVID.
Do we really have a Free Market? It’s been manipulated by over regulation and multitudes of court cases implemented by the communist leaning Democrat Party over the last 40-50 years, many of which were unconstitutional. ‘Jawboning’, the official name for making public comments to move markets has been an effective tool for over a century, enough to give it an offical name
I saw a quote the other day and thought is was very appropriate. It said if you don’t want Americans to flock to Democratic Socialism, then fix Capitalism. I agree that capitalism is good if done for the benefit of all society, not just the wealthy. But that is no longer the case in America. Our K shaped economy continues to grow, where a very small group benefits and the rest, not so much. It will eventually destabilize our country, as it is starting to do today. tRump and his family are very corrupt and making billions off of the rest of us. This corruption has flown down to the companies and wealthy people that support tRump. Many of tRumpublicans in congress are also corrupt. This morning brings another headline of this corruption in Congress with members not reporting stock trades.
I am not a fan of Bernie, AOC or democratic socialism, but more and more Americans are seeing the massive corruption going on in this country and are fed up. If it is not addressed, more and more will move towards the candidates and party that says they will address this corruption and level the playing feel for all Americans. I am an independent and have always voted for who I think is the best candidate, regardless of party affiliation. But I will no longer vote for any republican for national office until this corruption is fixed. I certainly will not vote for tRumpublican.
Mark, what specifically are you talking about? Corruption, is word that needs clarification. You can’t just say it without specifying what you are talking about. Otherwise it’s just another slanderous comment.
Frank, He must mean the corruption of Billions spent for the Learing Centers and Home Health Centers with not clients in Minneapolis, the Tax money sent to DNC lawyers from USAID thru Act Blue, Tax Dollars funneled to Left Law Firms to file lawsuits impeding growth of our economy and creating false documents to be admitted to courts and Congress.
