A Rutland City couple has been charged with enabling a minor to consume alcohol resulting in death in connection with a 2024 crash that killed a 17-year-old Massachusetts girl.

According to Vermont State Police, John-Henry Hubert, 55, and Kristin Hubert, 48, were processed Monday, July 27, after a Rutland County grand jury indicted them on charges of enabling consumption by minors causing death or serious bodily injury.

The charges stem from a fatal crash that occurred at about 4:06 AM on Nov. 10, 2024, on Cold River Road near Upper Cold River Road in Shrewsbury. Police said the driver, Macy Piersiak, 17, of Needham, Massachusetts, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that John-Henry and Kristin Hubert had enabled Piersiak to consume alcohol before the crash. The case was presented to a grand jury, which returned indictments in May 2026.

On July 27, the Rutland County Superior Court, Criminal Division, ordered both defendants to report to the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks for processing. They complied with the order and were processed without being lodged in jail.
