Vermont’s law enforcement worked a full slate this week, from drug raids in Rutland City and a dozen arrests in a Barre operation to a homicide prosecution in Bennington County and the fallout from sexual-misconduct charges against a sitting county sheriff. State troopers, meanwhile, handled the usual run of warrant, DUI, and abuse-prevention arrests across the map. The week’s incidents are a reminder of the steady, often difficult work of keeping Vermont’s communities safe.
Addison County: A man was cited following a confrontation with police in Middlebury, according to the Middlebury police log. Officers reported the incident and released the man on a citation to appear in court. Read more
Bennington County: Two people have been charged in connection with the killing of a Winhall man, according to court filings. Prosecutors allege the pair were involved in the man’s death, and both face proceedings in the Bennington Criminal Division as the investigation continues. Read more
Orleans County: A Barton man is accused of resisting arrest and assaulting state troopers during an encounter in the Northeast Kingdom, police said. Authorities reported the man was taken into custody and faces charges. Read more
Rutland County: Police raids in Rutland City led to multiple drug arrests, authorities said. Those taken into custody face drug-related charges and are due to answer in court. Read more
Washington County: A police operation in Barre ended with roughly a dozen people arrested and many facing drug-related charges. Those cited are due in court at a later date as the investigation continues. Read more
Windham County: A man was arrested on multiple charges in Rockingham following a police investigation, authorities said. He was cited on several counts, with details released to the public. Read more
Windsor County: Windsor County Sheriff Ryan Palmer, who faces 12 felony and misdemeanor counts alleging a pattern of sexual misconduct from 2024 through 2026, will not seek reelection. Four candidates filed to run for the seat by the May 28 deadline as the case against Palmer proceeds. Read more
Vermont State Police:
Arrest on Warrant in St. Albans
On May 29, 2026, Troopers from the St. Albans Barracks arrested Agnes Perry, 52, who had an active in-state arrest warrant. Perry was taken into custody at the Port of Entry. VSP continues to work with partner agencies to locate individuals with outstanding warrants. Read more
Violation of Abuse Prevention Order in Derby
The Derby Barracks arrested a suspect for violating an abuse prevention order. VSP urges anyone protected by such an order to report violations promptly so troopers can respond. Read more
Fugitive from Justice Arrest in St. Johnsbury
Troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks arrested David M. Devaux, 73, who was wanted on an extraditable felony warrant out of Grafton County, New Hampshire, related to operating a motor vehicle as a certified habitual offender. Devaux was processed and held pending extradition proceedings. Read more
DUI Arrest in Williston
On May 30, 2026, Julie Duke of Barre arrived at the Williston Barracks to pick up her juvenile daughter. Troopers detected indicators of impairment, and following an investigation Duke was arrested on suspicion of DUI and cited to appear in Chittenden County court on June 18. Read more
