Under pressure, Democrat Senate primary candidate allegedly scrubbed pro-Israel social media

By Ted Cohen

A candidate in a Democrat state senate primary deleted twitter posts touting her support for Israel, according to a published report.

The Rake Vermont says Joanna Grossman deleted several posts promoting Israel she deemed too polarizing for her campaign.

Grossman is competing in the Chittenden Southeast district for one of three seats currently occupied by Tom Chittenden, Ginny Lyons and Kesha Ram Hinsdale.

“Grossman’s progressivism ends when it comes to Palestine, in ways that could harm our rights to free speech and assembly,” a piece in The Rake claims.

“Prior to launching her campaign, Grossman painstakingly deleted her abundant public posts on X (formerly Twitter) and Reddit and vaporized a pro-Israel organization she started after Israel began its assault on Gaza,” according to The Rake authors Heather Benjamin and Andy Simon.

Benjamin and Simon make no bones about their anti-Israel viewpoint in their article, accusing the Jewish state of “genocide in Gaza.”

“Grossman took a primary leadership role opposing Vermont’s local movement in support of Palestine,” they write.

In Grossman’s defense is a group known as The Shalom Alliance, quoted in a VermontBiz.com piece decrying her being “accused of being a leading supporter of genocide” at a recent candidate forum.

“Accusing a Jewish candidate of supporting genocide is not a substitute for a serious policy question,” write Mike Kanarick and Yoram Samets. “It invokes one of the most inflammatory charges imaginable and places the candidate in the position of having to defend her fundamental character and humanity rather than explain her views.”

  1. Democrats and progressives need to get on board with the current wave of anti-Semitism and learn to throw the “genocide” label at anything they dont or are not supposed to like. It all makes sense to me from the party that supported slavery, fought to secede, drafted Jim Crow laws, defended them in the courts and used the KKK as their militant wing. Yep, it’s all pretty consistent over the decades.

  2. To compare the current Democrat party to the racist Southern Democrats of before is nonsense. Everyone knows those Southern bigots have become the White Nationalist Evangelicals of today.

And yes, Israel is currently a genocide state, and this Grossman sounds gross for supporting it.

    • I have seen several ancient maps of the area that designate the entire region as Judea. It was the Ottoman moslems in 1520 who exhibited COLONIALISM and took control of what is present-day Israel and committed genocide there. The RE-ESTABLISHMENT of Jewish control of Israel was justified by the UN General Assembly in 1947 as it is justified today. Israel is the only real democracy in the region. That’s all the history I need to know, as a non-Jewish Zionist. I dont fall for trendy false victimhoods that pretend that the Palestinian people have in any way contributed to improving the human condition. I know of many Jewish folk who have made great contributions to science, medicine and agriculture. I prefer making some political decisions based on merit, now that our President has brought back the forgotten concept of meritocracy.

  3. The gaslighting and intimidation by Benjamin and Simon against Grossman are straight out of the Marxist Communist playbook. Too bad she let them get away with it for political expediency. Her waffling and caving to their false narratives may now, unfortunately, cause her to lose respect and credibility as one who courageously stands by her convictions.

Benjamin and Simon’s demonically inverted perspective has become a de facto religion which they and their ilk are trying—in opposition to the religious liberty and freedom of conscience which are hallmarks of civil discourse—to shove down Grossman’s and all our throats.
