Two men die in early-morning crash

Shortly after midnight, a Warren man and a Granville man died in a two-car crash early Tuesday morning, August 15.

State police say the crash happened on Route 100 in Warren near Leland Jones Road. The operators were Harley LaPlante (37 of Warren) and another male (name withheld pending notification of next of kin). They were the sole occupants of each vehicle. Both operators were pronounced dead at the scene. 

The accident, which occurred shortly after midnight, is under investigation. Police say weather conditions were cloudy, road conditions were dry, and both men were wearing seat belts. 

A two-car collision on US Route 4 near Craigs Lane in Mendon on Aug. 11 around 7:22 p.m. resulted in the death of a Massachusetts man.

MA man dies in Mendon crash – State police say a 1983 Volkswagen Vanagon driven by Stephen P. Marcoulier, 62, of Ashby, MA veered off its eastbound lane, striking a guardrail IIt then re-entered the travel lane, colliding with a second vehicle also heading east. The impact caused the Volkswagen to roll onto its side.

Both vehicles eventually halted in the eastbound lane. Marcoulier was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The second vehicle was driven by Saudin Radoncic, 50, of Billerica, Ma, who sustained no injuries. He was accompanied by a passenger, Shane Radoncic, 20, also of Billerica, Ma, who was likewise unharmed. Both were wearing seatbelts. State police report published in Newport Dispatch

Truck falls from I-91 bridge into Rte. 25 – At least one person was taken by ambulance to the hospital yesterday afternoon after a pickup truck rolled off I-91 and landed in the middle of Route 25 beneath the interstate overpass in Bradford, the Journal-Opinion reports in its newsletter today. 

The accident happened at about 3 p.m. and the busy roadway was closed in both directions for approximately 30 minutes as emergency responders tended to the truck’s two occupants. One-way alternating traffic resumed while responders remained to clean up the scene.

The accident’s location is at the exit 16 interchange where construction zones have been implemented throughout the summer as crews make repairs to nearby interstate bridges over the Waits River and Route 25B.


Motocyclists injured in collision with deer – An August 6 crash in Marlboro involved a motorcycle and a deer on Vermont Route 9 at around 5:20 p.m.. According to police, Frank Demambro, 52, of Milford, NH, was traveling east on Vermont Route 9 toward Brattleboro when he collided with a deer in the road.


The crash resulted in both the driver and passenger being ejected from the motorcycle. Both were treated at the scene by members of Rescue who determined they had serious bodily injuries and required immediate further medical care.
They were both transported via air to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center by DART. The road was shut down in both directions for around one hour. State police report published in Newport Dispatch
