Teenager on e-bike killed in crash

A 16-year-old Burlington teenager has died after an e-bike crash with a minivan on Pine Street, according to Burlington Police.


Police identified the victim as Shiloh Skalka, 16, of Burlington. Authorities said Skalka died Thursday evening from injuries suffered in the collision.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Douglas Knapp, 79, of Burlington. Police said Knapp was operating a 2018 Dodge Caravan at the time of the crash.

The preliminary investigation found the collision occurred on Pine Street near the intersection of Locust Street. Investigators said Skalka was riding an e-bicycle, not an e-moto, and was wearing a helmet when the crash happened.

The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation. Burlington Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Detective Padric Hartnett at (802) 540-2351.
