Thursday’s rally leader John Rodgers live on VDC-TV tomorrow

“Tap Trees, Not Vermonters” protest co-organizer John Rodgers will be joining VDC Social Media Director Paul Bean live tomorrow at 2 PM on a VDC-TV Creemee Cast.

The former Vermont State Senator from the Northeast Kingdom has been on the organizing committee for the Vermont Values Under ATAX rally two weeks ago, and the ‘Tap Trees Not Vermonters’ protest scheduled for 11 AM – 2 PM at the Vermont State House.

Rodgers told VDC why h’e so passionate about the rallys:

“I am a husband, father and grandfather. I am a Vermonter, a farmer, a stonemason, equipment operator, a tradesmen, an environmentalist with a deep passion for the land and wildlife and a former legislator.

I am helping to organize these events to represent working class, Vermonters and the working poor, who have been forgotten by the majority of our state legislature. The protest is for every working class and working poor Vermonter no matter their race, creed, color, religion, political affiliation, or any other way that they identify.

This is for Vermonters whose families have been here for many generations, those who are brand new Vermonters and brand new Americans, and everyone in between.

I hope that participants will engage their legislators and tell them that they do not agree with the massive increases in the cost of living and the environmental degradation of our state. I want them to tell their legislators that they do not agree with regressive taxes, fees, and energy policy that takes money from the poor to give to the wealthy developers.

Everyone who hears about this protest should tell as many people as they can. They should also be sure that people who cannot attend send messages to their legislators through the sergeant at arms office at 828-2228.”

The name of the rally’s organizing coalition is called Downstream Vermonters.

  1. John, include the cruel impact of the Clean Heat Standards for the 13,000 household Low Income Heat Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). It keeps about 26,000 family members warm when they cannot afford heating fuels. OEO provides grants to the fuel dealer to cover the deficit.

When the CHS increases fuel costs 70 cents per gallon, or more, LIHEAP will run out of grant funds sooner while winter cold persists.

CHS has to be stopped and an increased OEO Weatherization Assistance Program doubling the number of LIHEAP homes weatherized, from current 1,200/yr to 3,000 homes.

  2. John would make a tremendous congressman for Vermont. Sanders can easily be beat on his contribution to record inflation, border crisis, rampant Fentanyl trafficking and the ongoing war in Ukraine John, please do it for us.
