No luck in search efforts for second drowning victim

By Michael Donoghue, Vermont News First

Vermont State Police said search efforts were unsuccessful on Friday for a man missing since Wednesday on the Lamoille River near Arrowhead Mountain Lake in Georgia.

The search crews worked from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with few clues.

The Vermont State Police, along with the Department of Public Safety’s Search and Rescue Coordinator, plan to return to the area on Saturday with K-9s.

They plan to search riverbanks and lakeshore areas downstream, state police said.

If necessary, VSP will evaluate resuming operations on the water on Monday.

The man is believed to be about 21 years-old and may be a brother to a 12-year-old girl that also drowned while fishing with family, officials said. Her body was found by state police divers Thursday evening.

Friday was considered a holiday for state workers and Saturday is the actual July 4th celebration, but emergency public safety crews are trying to bring closure to the family of the missing man, a spokesman said.
