Several New England journalism organizations have come together to condemn the Trump administration’s decision to ban Politico, CNN, and MS Now reporters from the White House.
The organizations issued a joint statement on Monday:
“Protecting press freedom is not about supporting one political party or opposing another. It is about defending the constitutional principles that allow journalism to serve the public, regardless of who occupies the White House.”
The statement was signed by the Connecticut Daily Newspaper Association, the Maine Press Association, the Massachusetts Newspaper Publishers Association, the New England First Amendment Coalition, the New England Newspaper and Press Association, and the Vermont Press Association. The Journal Opinion is a member of NENPA and the VPA.
The White House has defended its action claiming “access changes are nothing new” and that Democratic administrations previously targeted adversarial media outlets.

When Governor Scott banished a reporter from his news conferences a few years ago there was crickets from these folks. Additionally freedom of the press and the right to know are different. Freedom of the press is a constitutional right and the right to know is statutory. As Yogi Berra would have said, “You can look it up,”
