CORRECTION: Giant killer Mid-Vermont Christian to play for state crown NOON Saturday at Barre Auditorium

The Mid Vermont Christian (White River Junction) varsity basketball team (12 wins, 6 losses) will play for the Division 4 Vermont state championship vs. 20-7 Rivendell Academy of Orford, NH noon, Saturday, March 11.

The game will be held at the Barre Auditorium. This game is the culmination of the 2023 Vermont Principals Association Boys Basketball State Championships Division 4″ tournament.

The Rivendell Raptors have averaged 55.5 points per game, The Mid-Vermont Christian School Eagles averaged 56.6, according to Both teams are 3-0 in tournament play. Rivendell is 7-2 against common opponents, Mid-Vermont Christian is 5-2. 

Mid-Vermont Christian qualified for the championship game by defeating the much larger Long Trail School team by a single point Monday night at the Barre Auditorium.

Mid-Vermont Christian School is a private Christian school located in White River Junction. The varsity boys program began competing in Vermont division 4 basketball in 2011 after previously competing in Christian school leagues. Rivendell is the high school for a bi-state public school district – the only one in Vermont – formed in 1998. It serves Orford NH and the Vermont towns of Vershire, Fairlee and West Fairlee.

Last month, the Mid-Vermont girls’ basketball team made national headlines when it chose to forfeit a game against Long Trail rather than play against a team with a 6’2″ biological male player.
