Vermont News First has been told Burlington Police are investigating an early morning stabbing homicide behind Courthouse Plaza on Main Street near South Winooski Avenue.
The homicide happened about 4 a.m. and was part of a hectic night for Burlington Police.
The stabbing victim is believed to be a young man in his early 20s, VNF was told. He was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center where he later died, Vermont News First was told.
City Police also are investigating a shooting near Church and King Streets shortly before the homicide, VNF was told. It is a block away from the homicide, but is believed unrelated to the killing, Vermont News First was told by a person familiar with the case, but not authorized to speak about it.
City officers also responded to a possible stabbing in City Hall Park overnight. Some young people may have gotten into a confrontation with some of the homeless people, according to one source.
Courthouse Plaza is just east of the Vermont Superior Courthouse, which houses the Civil and Probate Divisions.
The multi-story building was the longtime home office for U.S. Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, D-Vt. and now is used by U.S. Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt. It also is the home of Downs Rachlin Martin, one of Vermont best known law firms.

An active weekend in the “vibrant” Burlington area. According to local news:
-Friday, 1:30pm (yes, afternoon)- Attempted knife attack by 3 yoots on the bike path near North Beach.
-Saturday, 2am- knife injury in argument between 2 men, St. Paul and Bank St.
-Saturday, 3am- argument resulting in gunfire, no injuries, at corner of King and Main St.
-Saturday, 4am-stabbing death, Main and Church St.
Am awaiting the next uplifting press conference by Mayor Emma Hyphen. Isn’t democratic socialism wonderful?

So called restorative justice….and Chittenden county just voted for more of it. Is it bad enough yet? I guess not.

Maybe the mayor should give up all firearm protection. That would be real leadership.
Did someone say “Burlington is Back” Sarah George is back! I went downtown on Friday night (which I will never do again) It was downright scary. I was only there a little over an hour, and I had a drunk and a high on something approach me staggering asking me for money. My rule is that I will only go to Burlington for two reasons, but I promised a friend that I would go see their little concert. I was horrified and totally felt unsafe and that will never happen again. I have never seen so much crime in the one night that this article mentions in my life. You never know what is going to happen, and I don’t ever want to find out. So, I will just stay away. Anyone with half a brain who doesn’t absolutely have to be down there they should just stay away also.

What is most disturbing to me is how many folks showed up at the last city council meeting decrying getting tougher on crime and it turning the city into a police state. My gosh what level of ignorance. This situation did not magically happen. There is a distinct root cause which started with the defund police movement. So frustrating to see my home town become what it is now.
Sad,Sad,Sad what is happened to our once beautiful vibrant Burlington. This is now reflecting on our entire state. What a shame!

In her video endorsing Sarah George for Chittenden States Attorney, Senator Ram Hinsdale said clearly “Chittenden County is safe”. Hmmm. Sadly, the Senator is one of many current legislators disconnected from reality.

It is Time to get off at the next station by putting new people in old seats in the VT legislature.
A new majority will get us home.
