Block heater causes oil delivery truck fire

An oil delivery truck caught fire in Derby late last Tuesday night.

The Derby Line Fire Department received a report of a fire on Route 5 at around 9 PM.

A Fred’s Oil delivery truck was fully engulfed in flames with fire extending to other oil delivery trucks parked nearby when firefighters arrived.

Fire investigators were able to trace the origin of the fire to a connection point for one of the vehicle’s block heaters that was plugged in at the time.

The oil trucks were unoccupied and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was ruled accidental.

The trucks sustained extensive damage from fire, heat, and smoke.
