Vermont’s senior U.S. senator, who was effectively the last man standing defending an embattled senate candidate from Maine, has finally gone south on Graham Platner.
“I have recommended that he step aside,” Sanders said Tuesday, breaking his silence on the accused rapist.
Sanders was among Platner’s earliest supporters in Maine’s senate race, endorsing the Democrat nominee long before other party luminaries reluctantly decided they could live with him.
But once a major Washington news outlet ran a piece Monday quoting one of Platner’s girlfriends alleging he once raped her, party leaders who had finally backed Platner began falling like flies.
Sanders was a holdout, refusing to join the Platner critics until political pressure apparently gave him no choice.
“I have spoken with Graham Platner about the best path forward for Maine,” Sanders finally said Tuesday. “In light of these very serious allegations, I have recommended that he step aside.”
Platner has said he is reviewing his options but has stopped short of quitting the race, despite pressure from the party to do so.
Under Maine election law, he has until July 13th to decide whether to resign as the Democrat candidate against U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, a five-term Republican.

The parties over,
Its time to call it a day.
They’ve burst your pretty balloon and taken the moon away.
Don’t worry Dan, DNC is being replaced by the DSA
Time for Bernie to “bow” out completely.
Day late and a dollar short Senator Freeloader.
Do the right thing and time to hang up your taxpayer funded spurs and head out to pasture.
We’ll be sure to close the gate behind you.
If you fail in choosing candidates that would serve the country in good standing… lord only knows what damage you would wrought, if your chosen ones, were elected to power…I shutter for the country at the mere thought.
Do us all a favor and please retire…age has rattled your thought process…spare us the ill thought out details.
I’ll even pay a one way coach ticket back home for ya. (Can’t afford a private jet like you are used to.)
Please retire.
Please allow me one more input on this subject Senator Freeloader.
Please provide to all of us, here on this forum ,a detailed list of every job you have ever held in your lifetime, that was not funded by the American taxpayer, so we can see the basis for your experience, to rule over us.
While you are at it, please provide a complete breakdown of all costs to the American taxpayer, of your offices ,staff ,salaries ,benefits, including the extras given to people like you, such as private lines at airports, bypassing security checks ,free mailings ,that us commoners must endure, and the likes… then take the total costs of all taxpayer funded costs, of your combined government employment, then list side by side, how much you have saved the taxpayer over the years, against what you have cost the taxpayers to maintain you and your operations, including health ins ,lifelong retirement costs, to taxpayers, per year, after you retire, if you live to be 95.
I bet the end result will be that you just ain’t worth the money spent to keep you…time to act like the shepherd you are and get the flock out of DC…please ,in all due respect.
Another mental status for the Bern. He doesn’t want and person that ever was on SS to receive interest. Many would be well off. You might get $255 for a death benefit. If you die prematurely, before you get a dime, the government gets it-free money. If any delinquent SS payments to the Gov, the IRS penalizes and charges you interest as much as 30%. For any that puts them out of range to pay and they get a bankrupt status. According to Al Gore the SS money is in a locked box. BUT Bernie has the key and SS is reportedly in financial trouble as it often is.The Bern wants free money for the Gov and himself. This what you get from a non-worker, zero economic knowledge, a carpetbagger.
See Trump now has a financial program giving $1000 to some 50,000 children for it to invest and grow and make them rich at retirement. Bernie can’t touch it, but he’ll try.
Bernie Sanders is a communist and should bow out of the Senate. He has destroyed Vermont. The sad part is he is proud of that. He owes the state of her millions of dollars that he has misappropriated. But still denies Democrat Democrats are domestic terrorists.
As Bernie Sanders has advised Graham Platner, “I have spoken with Graham Platner about the best path forward for Maine.” Sanders finally said Tuesday. “In light of these very serious allegations, I have recommended that he step aside.” Bernie should follow his own advice. After years of seriously ruining Vermont, the best path forward for Vermont would be for Bernie “…to step aside…”
The dear Bern, got burnt. Other people had to do his thinking for him. VT’s finest we send to DC.
Lest people forget, Senator Bernie Sanders wrote a short, stream-of-consciousness essay titled “Man—and Woman” in 1972 for the Vermont Freeman, an alternative newspaper. The opening paragraph included a graphic description of hypothetical male and female fantasies, with the woman’s fantasy described as being “raped by 3 men simultaneously”. The essay explored how deeply ingrained gender stereotypes and sexual dominance impact relationship dynamics. When the article resurfaced during his presidential campaigns, Sanders and his representatives described the essay as a “dumb attempt at dark satire” intended to criticize 1970s gender stereotypes, and stressed it did not reflect his views or record on women.
Feel the Bern out!
