Barre independent running for governor

Vermont gubernatorial candidate Brian Judd is promising to use the governor’s executive authority aggressively if elected in November, including seeking to repeal Act 181, restore state psychiatric hospitals and conduct broad audits of state government and nonprofit organizations.

Judd will face Republican incumbent Phil Scott and Democrat Amanda Janoo in the November 3 general election.

The independent candidate was born and raised in Barre City. His family owned a funeral home in Barre City for over 100 years.(Hooker & Whitcomb Funeral Home). Judd is an honorably discharged Navy Veteran Oct. 1978 – Dec. 1983 who has been clean and sober from alcohol and drugs for over 35 years, and was a member of SAG/AFTRA for almost 30 years. In 2021 he ran for Barre City Council. In 2022 he ran for Barre City State Representative.

In a campaign statement, Judd said his approach to the office would be guided by the Vermont Constitution, emphasizing the governor’s responsibility to ensure state laws are faithfully executed and the governor’s role as captain-general and commander-in-chief of the state’s forces.

Judd identified taxes as a major focus of his campaign, saying he would work with the Legislature — and, when necessary, the judiciary — to stop tax increases, lower existing taxes and return taxpayer money to Vermonters.
He also outlined three actions he said would be priorities immediately following his inauguration on Jan. 14, 2027.

His first proposed executive order would seek the “complete and total repeal” of Act 181, Vermont’s 2024 land-use and housing law that made significant changes to the state’s Act 250 development review system.

His second would seek to address homelessness by bringing back state psychiatric hospitals. Judd did not provide details in the statement about how the facilities would be established, funded or operated.

His proposed third executive order would call for an audit of Vermont state government as well as nonprofit organizations throughout the state. Judd did not specify the scope of the audits or which nonprofits would be subject to them.

Judd portrayed the three proposals as only the beginning of a broader agenda he would pursue as governor. “There’s much, much, much more,” Judd said, encouraging Vermonters to contact him for additional information about his platform. “Save Vermont, Vote Judd,” he concluded. “God Bless Vermont.”

  2. I like his platform. My only concern is the possibility that this will split the vote and result in giving Janno an advantage. I sure hope not. That would be a disater- IMO.

  3. I like what you stand for. Phil Scott is an utter disappointment, especially his totalitarian handling of covid and supporting horrific federal candidates in previous elections. There needs to be some strategy in this, given the alternative candidates and their platforms. If polls (i know, i know polls!) show the race is close between Scott and Janoo yet you are holding 10% or more of the vote, will you vow to resign from your campaign and endorse our current so called governor?

  6. Well, given that I haven’t voted for Scott since he stabbed us in the back by signing unconstitutional legislation regarding gun rights, I don’t really care about a split vote. I’ve stopped voting “strategically” (so called), I have instead decided that I will vote for the one who I can support and feel good enough about that I can look at myself in the mirror the next day. Scott is a somewhat fiscally conservative liberal democrat and Janoo is a the sky’s the limit (with our money) communist lite. So yeah, no appeal to me.

  7. Well Brian, this is welcome news especially with what we have as voting choices now. Plus, it helps to have the power of prayer, know who the author is that answers them and it is a plus to have one of your best friends be a former Whitcomb, you might remember Hildy, she says hi BTW. We will be telling our friends about you also. I would say Good Luck, but I don’t believe in luck so I will do one better and pray that you get elected and I know that Hildy will be doing the same. I am from down there also, I was raised in Williamstown. I moved up to the Burlington area in 1985.

  9. Thank you Brian for stepping up. It’s a no brainer that you have my support. This current governor and his lieutenant are both leftist, woke thugs who hate President Trump who helped create all the problems us hard working Vermonters are facing today.

    I have a solid “compare & contrast” that is spot on pointing his leftist policy positions.

  10. Brian Judd for Governor! Wow finally someone who will follow the Constitution. I too would not vote for King Philip the Scott 1st Eunuch King of Castrati after he sold us out on 2nd Amendment issues. I no longer have to write in Mickey Mouse on my ballot.

  11. i like your ideas about more transparency in government spending (audits) as well as the restoration of state psychiatric hospitals. would definitely be interested to hear you elaborate more on your positions during a debate, interview, or podcast.
