NORAD monitoring another ‘high-altitude’ object over Canada – report –Military aircraft “currently operating” in the area. | 11 Feb 2023 | Another “high-altitude” object has been spotted in the skies above North America, U.S. defense officials reportedly said Saturday. A NORAD spokesman confirmed to Canada’s CTV News that “military aircraft are currently operating from Alaska and Canada in support of North American Aerospace Defense Command activities” and that the joint initiative has “positively identified a high-altitude airborne object over northern Canada.” “While we cannot discuss specifics related to these activities at this time, please note that NORAD conducts sustained, dispersed operations in the defense of North America through one or all three NORAD regions,” the organization said to the news network.

‘Object’ shot down over Alaska penetrated US airspace before being detected – U.S. official –Shoot-down of ‘object’ over Alaska follows similar incident involving a Chinese surveillance aircraft over continental US last week | 11 Feb 20223 | A senior U.S. official has confirmed to Fox News that the “object” shot down over Alaska on Friday entered U.S. airspace before it was detected. The official told Fox News the object was detected by the U.S. military while it was “over Alaska not far from the northern coast” on Thursday night. National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby confirmed Friday afternoon during a White House press briefing that the U.S. military shot down an “object” that was flying in territorial waters over Alaska. Kirby added that the “object” landed on frozen waters, and that “Fighter aircraft assigned to U.S. Northern Command took down the object within the last hour.”

A group of 11 Republican lawmakers called on the United States to halt additional military and financial aid to Ukraine.  

Rescuers Toil on in Rubble of Turkey and Syria as Death Toll Tops 25,250 | 11 Feb 2023 | Rescuers in Turkey pulled more people from the rubble early on Saturday, five days after the country’s most devastating earthquake since 1939, but hopes were fading in Turkey and Syria that many more survivors would be found. In Kahramanmaras, close to the quake’s epicenter in southern Turkey, there were fewer visible rescue operations amid the smashed concrete mounds of fallen houses and apartment blocks, while ever more trucks rumbled through the streets shipping out debris. The death toll kept growing–exceeding 25,250 across southern Turkey and northwest Syria. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, facing questions over earthquake planning and response time, has said authorities should have reacted faster.

Second Republican Council Member Shot Dead a Week After Unsolved Murder of Colleague | 9 Feb 2023 | A New Jersey council member was shot and killed in his car Wednesday, according to local authorities, just a week after a state councilwoman was murdered in a similar fashion. Republican New Jersey councilmember Russel Heller, 51, was discovered dead in his car shortly after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of his employer, local energy company PSE&G, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. A former employee, Gary Curtis, 58, was identified as a suspect in the shooting and was found dead in his car three hours later from what is currently suspected to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Heller’s death occurred exactly one week after the assassination of Republican councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour, who was also shot and killed in her vehicle by a currently unidentified suspect. Dwumfour’s death occurred just 15 miles from Heller’s death. Somerset County Prosecutor’s office stated that the two murders are not linked.

Pennsylvania Court Won’t Force Release of Voter Info for GOP-Led 2020 Election Probe | 11 Feb 2023 | An appeals court in Pennsylvania has refused to force the Department of State to release personal voter information to Senate Republicans for their ongoing investigation into the 2020 election, but it left the door open for the probe to continue by saying they have the power to enforce the subpoena themselves. In its long-running probe into the 2020 election, the GOP-led Pennsylvania Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee issued a subpoena in September 2021 requesting that the Department of State release guidelines, communications, and a variety of voter information. Pennsylvania Democratic senators sued to block enforcement of the subpoena, prompting a countersuit by Republicans demanding that the court force compliance with the subpoena. The court ruled on Feb. 9 not to enforce the subpoena and compel the Department of State to provide the committee with the personal information of voters. In an opinion, President Judge Emerita Mary Hannah Leavitt denied the Republican-led committee’s petition to force compliance with their subpoena.

Hochul faces an ‘uprising’ over her plan to override local zoning laws and build new housing in NYC suburbs | 11 Feb 2023 | The New York City suburbs nearly cost Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-WEF) her job. Now, far from treading with caution, she’s pushing a proposal that may be radioactive in the bedroom communities that dot the region: A plan to mandate more housing in those suburban counties, some of the nation’s largest and wealthiest. Hochul wants to give the state bold new authority to override local zoning laws in cases where municipalities resist the measure… “You would see a suburban uprising, the likes of which you’ve never seen before, if the state tried to impose land-use regulations on communities that have had local control for over a 100 years,” Bruce Blakeman, the Republican county executive in Nassau County, said in an interview. Her plan would compel every municipality to grow their housing stock and require those downstate to allow more housing near rail stations, contributing to her goal of reaching 800,000 new homes over the next decade.

Daly City BART station evacuated due to hazardous material from SF explosion – sources| 10 Feb 2023 | BART officials say that the Daly City station has been evacuated due to a possible hazmat situation outside the station. Daly City fire and police are responding to the area. The Colma BART station is also closed. Sources tell the ABC7 News I-Team that two officers were transporting hazardous materials to storage from the blast in San Francisco’s Sunset District Thursday and smelled something. They pulled over and bailed out. Daly City Fire is coordinating with San Francisco police on how to handle.
