Woman dies outside home during storm

A Castleton home daycare operator and avid snowmobiler is the first known Vermonter to die in the Christmas weekend storm. 

According to news reports, Joyce Ricard, 51, died when a tree fell on her as she tried to enter her home on Friday, December 23. 

She is survived by a husband and four children. Calling hours will be held at the Durfee Funeral Home today from 4-6 pm.

Storm Outage Report: As of this morning at 9:30 AM, 232 Vermont utility customers remain without power, according to VTOutages.org. Newfane has the most with 105. East Montpelier is down to 25, the first time it’s been under 100 since last Friday.
