Does anyone recognize the irony here in suicide prevention ? The state that wants to create suicide tourism wants to try to ban suicide by gun. Oh, so now our esteemed legislature has decided that they can choose who and who is not entitled to kill themselves.
I find this whole discussion to be fruitless. ANYTHING done by any legislature is just window dressing because this nation has not yet come to grips with end-of-life. Little Vermont is making a mess of it.
While I find the legislature to be very schizophrenic regarding suicide, I am still glad that I have the choice to terminate my life when I believe that my mere existence becomes an unnecessary burden on society. I get to make a choice that is mine to make. Extending this right to non-citizens of VT is a very poor position. That is up to the legislatures of the other states.
I do not say this frivolously. I observed my brilliant father slowly die in a nursing home of dementia over 5 years. What a waste of time, money and effort by so many to extend a miserable life. I have specifically directed my family NOT to put in a nursing home that I will not be able to walk out of. That is my choice and my right. I had a client whose 96-year-old father blew his brains out with a gun. The thing is, everyone in the family knew it was coming. He told them what he was going to do and did it. I might have to so the same if I leave VT.
My underlying point here is this piecemeal approach to end-of-life decisions is only confusing and papers over the main issue.
It has nothing to do with suicide. It is all about removing our right to bear arms – which “shall not be infringed.” They can mandate you play Russian Roulette with a needle. They can demand you subject your body to pharmacutical experimentation. According to them, you can’t shoot yourself with a gun, but by all means, we demand you take a shot in the arm – same result for far too many.
All true, but to me the real issue here is that, as usual, they are once again removing choice from a sovereign citizen. Whether that choice comes from a rational place or an emotional state, it remains no one else’s to make — most certainly not our “enlightened” socialist legislators.
You can lead, teach and demonstrate scientific logic and reason, but you can’t make anyone drink from it. Likewise, you can also lead, teach and act out lies, perversions and other emotional and unnatural states. We see what prevails currently in daily headlines, and it ain’t pretty. Woke is a just another assault on language and civilized society. It has nothing to do with being awake; they are emotionally misled and mal-educated.
Gender bending is not scientific. Climate change/global warming apocalypse propaganda is not scientific. Life and death decisions are not scientific. Who or what it is that defines mis- or dis-information is not scientific. None of these matters is the province of government or legislation to determine. And how one goes about determining the truth in science and society, and how to apply it to one’s own life, is not their decision either. Defund public education.
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he grows older he will not abandon it.
C’mon. We all know if they were really interested in preventing suicide, the same lawmakers would be proposing nets be installed under all the overpasses.
