VT Congressional delegation glosses over Biden debate disaster

One pro-Democrat pundit comments while ‘sitting in the rubble’ of the ‘calamitous’ debate

Kevin and Phineas Ellis talked bluntly on a podcast about the debate catastrophe from a pro-Democrat point of view. In contrast, Vermont’s members of Congress (like Rep. Becca Balint) spoke politely about Biden’s blunders or said nothing at all.

By Guy Page

Vermont’s three members of Congress either glossed over or ignored President Joe Biden’s performance in Thursday night’s debate. Instead they took aim at his opponent, Republican Donald Trump.

Sen. Peter Welch was giving a pep talk Friday morning to Vermont journalists and publishers about bills he has sponsored to help the traditional news media’s bottom line. At about 9:40 AM, while sitting on the podium at the UVM Davis Center during the Vermont Journalism Conference, Welch quickly dropped in his take about the debate:

“Was there a debate last night?” [Collective eye roll, chuckle from audience.] “I’m worried. It was not good.”

He then pivoted to his traumatic first-person reminiscence of hearing the gunfire during the January 6 incursion. As far as Welch’s social media is concerned, the debate didn’t happen.

Rep. Becca Balint (D-Vermont) also praised Biden’s performance with faint damnation.

“Let’s just, like, call it like it was, right?,” she said Friday afternoon on the pro-Biden Dean Obeidallah podcast. “The president did not have the night we wanted him to have. We know what he is capable of. We know his talents and his strengths. And unfortunately he didn’t have the night that we all wanted him to have. Obviously, that’s disappointing, I’m not going to dance around that,” Balint said.

Then, like Welch, she pivoted to condemn Biden’s opponent. “But I was also just struck by the sheer volume of lies coming from Trump.”

Sanders delivered this one-paragraph comment on X Saturday: “Last night Trump said that “everybody” wanted to overturn Roe v. Wade. That’s just one of the many lies he told. Recent polls showed that 2/3 of Americans opposed that terrible Supreme Court decision. Americans know that women, not the government, should control their own bodies.”

Not a word from Sanders about Biden’s performance.

Vermont’s political pundit class – with one notable exception – also has apparently decided that if you can’t say anything nice about Biden, don’t say anything at all. Ever since a June 27 column about Bernie Sanders, it’s been crickets. The same day VTDigger ran a news story on the VT GOP backing felonious Trump. Not a word about Biden since then.

One high-profile Vermont Democrat pundit who did cover the debate was Kevin Ellis. The former journalist/lobbyist now publishing the Conflict of Interest blog and hosting a WDEV morning show produced a refreshing podcast with a young relative, Phineas Ellis, himself a D.C.-based podcaster of note.

Both men prefer a Democrat president over Trump. Ellis the Younger repeatedly calls Trump ‘a monster.’

Here’s how Ellis starts the 22-minute Conflict of Interest podcast, which is well worth the listen for Trump supporters wishing to understand the Other Side:

“We are sitting here in the rubble of the calamitous Joe Biden – Donald Trump debate,” Ellis said. ….Boy, those first few minutes, it was horrible.”

“The president and his team had one job. That was for his team to show up and prove to his skepticla electoral that he is not addled,” Ellis continued. “And they failed the test, badly. He looked addled, he looked confused.”

The Ellis duo compared how Trump issues like the border and the Deep State fare with young people (surprisingly well, even among the young left, Phineas Ellis) compared to how Biden communicates with young people (poorly).

The cumulative impact of the alienation of youth and the debate disaster could mean a Trump landslide – if Biden stays in.

They conclude with Phineas Ellis asking the elder Ellis, what happens now? How could the Dems replace Biden. Ellis recalled the 1968 Chicago Democratic convention, after incumbent president Lyndon Johnson pulled out of the race. His departure left the nomination open to an also-ran free-for-all, including Robert F. Kennedy Sr..

For that to happen at this month’s convention – also in Chicago – Biden would have to drop out. Kevin Ellis thinks a phone call from only one person could make that happen.

“It will be interesting to see the next 48 hours, what happens. Is Obama going to make that phone call? I don’t think Bill Clinton can do it anymore, and I know Hilary Clinton can not. But Barack Obama can. And I don’t know if he’s gonna.”

Ellis said he’s pulling for Biden to drop out: “I think it would be good. It would be healthy.”

Vermont has no elected Republican officials on the national stage, but Vermont GOP chair Paul Dame weighed in X (Twitter.)

Trump Critic: “Trump is perfectly fit for the Oval office, right Paul? I can’t roll my eyes hard enough.”

Dame: “I’ve never said Trump is a perfect fit for the Oval office. I don’t think anyone is. But after last week Biden isn’t even fit to take drive-through orders.”

  1. Vermont’s three members of Congress either glossed over or ” ignored ” President Joe Biden’s ” feckless ” performance in Thursday night’s debate and now you see why the state & country are in the shape it’s in, as we all know that Joe Biden cannot make any real decisions, he’s ” lost in space “, he is a ” puppet ” and someone other than Joe is running the country, and running it into the ground !!

If our three stooges in DC, believe that Joe Biden hasn’t lost his mental competency due to ” Alzheimer’s ” then it is time for Vermont to elect new representation, as Joe Biden should be in a nursing home, not the White House…………

what a pathetic display of a leader, Wake up people, it’s all about power and they’ll prop up this mental cadaver of a man………………….how disgusting !!

  2. If Vermont’s members of Congress admitted that Biden was a disaster, their campaign funds would dry up. They would be ostracized by their party and left to survive independently. What a pity! Not!

  3. With 4 months until the election the democratic party are stuck with a dead horse candidate and have no one to blame but themselves. They knew from before the last election that he was brain dead.

  4. These Progressives are a party of Shameless liars. They’ve been lying to us for years about Biden’s mental acuity and fitness for the office. Remember when they complained that it was “right wing” media when Biden’s fitness for office was questioned? They were lying to us then up through the debate last week. That some of these Progressives and the complicit media have ceased lying for a moment does not change the fact that they are liars who will lie to you for any political advantage they can gain in the quest to remain in power and to rule the unsuspecting. Keep electing these Progressives at your own peril.

  5. Reading the article and quotes from liberals (mindless), I wonder if Hitler was running as a Dem, they would vote for him. Their mindset would be that “Hitler was a nice guy, after all he liked dogs” For three years so frr Biden is a complete dunce if the mindless could get off their duffs and observe and care about the people that sent them to DC.

  6. When you start to have dementia like this, it does not ever get ‘better’. It’s a downward fall, and sometimes it happens extremely fast. To think that this is the man in charge of Nuclear Weapons is frightening. If the country is relying on Biden’s ‘handlers’ to make all the decisions, then we have a right to know who his handlers are, and their name should be on the ballot. That’s not how our country is supposed to work, though.

  7. Another Republicans pounce story. They don’t talk about the real issue they just talk about Trump and the egregious Republican response. True Soviet deflection. Thanks Kevin you are finally showing your true colors.

    • The real issue and possible national security threat is a country having a president who is obviously cognitively impacted. Why not address the issue.

  8. “VT Congressional delegation glosses over Biden debate disaster” I would expect no different from Democrat party loyalists. He could have fallen into a pile of frothing goo, and Democrats would have said “yea, but he did it with such flair !” The jig is up, but they are so disingenuous they will never admit it .

  9. Biden was coerced to enter a fraudulent election scheme in August 2020. An ignorant, corrupt, bumbling patsy to be setup and manipulated by the deep state. Whose loyalty was easily leveraged by millions in offshore bribes. Now, blackmailed to remain in office to protect the players. Keeping BILLIONS upon BILLIONS in untraceable money flowing, or he and his family will join them in a downfall. Ask yourself, why has there been no attempt to bring Putin and Zelenskyy to the peace table? There is justifiable fear, unable to remove his opponent from the ballot, an assignation will be the last resort.

  10. We citizens of the United States find ourselves in a predicament. Is our government run by the people for the people under the laws set forth in the Constitution? Or is it run by political parties acting as a union monopoly of power regardless of the laws?
The public display by the President at the last political debate brings into question his mental acuity and ability to run this country. The 25th Amendment section 4 of the Constitution of the United States is perfectly clear: “Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.”
If the President is in fact unable to “discharge the powers and duties of his office” then actions should be taken now to put the Vice President Kamala Harris in as President, period. This decision under the Constitution is not a political or political party decision. This is a decision for the operation and protection of our country, citizenry and way of life.
If this is not done, a political scheme may be set in place to circumvent the Constitution. Putting in place an individual other than Vice President Kamala Harris as President or exposing our country to risks foreign and domestic by keeping a leader that is incapable is unacceptable. We cannot allow the two major political parties or the uniparty to implement a solution to save their political power instead of the solution set down by Our Constitution. If they do We the People must speak up and resist this corruption.

  11. The gem in this story is the Kevin Ellis piece. Listen and share.

  12. VTDIGGER…..doesn’t even talk about it. Sometimes the strongest propaganda is what is not said, or said very little about….

just a bad night, that’s all.

They are leaving out of course, that’s why he campaigned in the basement, that’s why he’s given all the questions and now’s what reporters to call on. It’s all heavily scripted.

    Fall in line comrade.

  13. It’s not a coincidence that it’s happening in Chicago and it’s going to be a virtual conference, much easier to control things….it’s already all planned out.

They are organized, can’t take that away from them.
They also can’t think for themselves, as demonstrated by our federal representatives.

Nope, they cannot deviate from the plan, a major weakness. It’s about power, money and I’m so great that I’ve been given the prize of being labeled a narcissist, a psychopath, a sociopath…..a marxist, but then I repeat myself.

    Love, Joy, Peace…..

    That is the Kryptonite.

    To God be the Glory.

  14. In 4 months will Vermont again select Democrat/Socialist federal officials?
How does this happen? Will Bilant again get $1,000,000 of stolen ad money from Ukraine?
AIPAC will shovel more to Sander as well.
And God knows how anyone votes for Welch, but it could be any of the low-lifers he makes his money from.
Clean up voters rolls, guard the polls, vote, bring your neighbors to vote, and get CVRs asap after the selection.
    Make Vermont Democrats cry again.

  15. Meanwhile, Putin and Xi are signing trade deals with over half the globe, flipping the basket of currencies over to dump the worthless fiat petro dollar, and setting up Western nations for economic collapse. If anything, the EU is now shifting and lurching Right and the NWO is failing – the kind of climate change I can get behind. Here’s your lawn sign, keep believing the lies and falling for the psyops.

  16. The reason our legislators are glossing over the so-called ‘debate disaster’ has less to do with Biden’s incompetence (which we all have known about) and more to do with diverting attention from two specific SCOTUS decisions – overturning the so-called Chevron Deference practice and the illegal citation of the “obstruction of an official proceeding,” in Fischer v. United States.

The Chevron Deference decision finally makes it illegal for ‘administrative agencies’ to interpret their own regulations when challenged. With Vermont being the poster child for the creation of authoritarian agencies making law and interpreting it, with this ruling, only the courts can make the final judgment. Vermont bureaucrats, take notice.

In Fischer v. United States, on the other hand, the SCOTUS finally puts ‘lawfare’ on notice. Specifically, the Dept. of Justice’s limited interpretation of the “obstruction of an official proceeding” charge levied against Jan 6ers, has been overruled. And it also happens to be the crux of one of the cases against Trump. Merrick Garland, Jack Smith, et al., your political tyranny is coming to an end.

And no, I didn’t make reference to the presidential immunity decision because it’s not as definitive as the other two rulings. There is more lawyering to do in determining what constitutes an ‘official’ v. ‘unofficial’ action. Suffice it to say, for now at least, the panic over whether or not the president can arbitrarily send Seal Team 6 to kill you is not warranted. But there is more clarification necessary.

Again, the reason Welch, Sanders, Balint and other Vermont legislators are focusing on poor old Joe Biden is to divert your attention from the SCOTUS rulings that are going to expose their unconstitutional activities. But it’s only a matter of time now. The jig is up.

    • Thank you for bringing up the Chevron Defense Supreme Court ruling. This is incredibly important.

  17. “Qualifications”
    Qui bono?
All the world is a stage. I can’t take anything down here seriously… what we SEE is NOT what is running the system… its the man behind the curtain… WHOOOOOOOO is that?

  18. RE: “Last night Trump said that “everybody” wanted to overturn Roe v. Wade. That’s just one of the many lies he told.

So, who is lying? Bernie, are you saying those same Vermonters who passed the Right to Personal Reproductive Autonomy Amendment (2022), that essentially allows abortion at any time, for any reason, or for no reason at all, are regretting the overturning of Roe v. Wade? If the SCOTUS hadn’t overturned Roe, the Reproductive Autonomy Amendment would have never seen the light of day.

And no, I don’t expect Bernie to respond any more than I expect the other ‘liars’ to do so.

  19. The arguments from Trump’s obsessed detractors are that he will be a dictator, he will start WWIII and that he lies constantly, and of course we must expect that from a successful person in the real estate and entertainment industry (roll eyes now). They ignore that he served 4 years as President without any of those occurring and that those allegations actually describe Biden quite accurately. Biden always was a jerk and a moron…but now he is a jerk and a moron with dementia. These statements or lack thereof by our DC delegation simply illustrate what a pathetic crew a majority of Vermonters have elected.

  20. Welchs response;

He then pivoted to his traumatic first-person reminiscence of hearing the gunfire during the January 6 incursion. As far as Welch’s social media is concerned, the debate didn’t happen.

Typical lying democrat, unless he was standing on the stairway where an employee of the federal government shot and killed Ashley Babbit.

Thanks to the democratic party, we live in one of the most corrupt countries in the world. After Biden’s failed attempt at debating, the donks are now forming the circular firing squad.
