A gritty little Windsor County diner, which proudly hates Donald Trump and is making no apologies for its controversial grilling of the Republican president, is creating a huge backlash from pro-Trumpers.
“Certain (fascist type) people complain that The Hartland Diner is ‘too political’ or keeps mixing ‘politics’ with breakfast,” the diner owner, Nicole Bartner, just posted on Facebook in response to her critics. “I am here to tell you that anyone who says anything even remotely like those things right now are racist fascists.”
And then this:
“May every one of you filthy Rebs die screaming in a fire,” Bartner added. “You are the very opposite of patriots. You are the actual enemies of America. You are a disgrace to every good thing these United States can be.🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲”
Bartner is responding to a commentary by Benjamin Cross headlined “When A Diner Turns Into A Pulpit Of Hate.”
Cross posted on GreenMountainRevival.com, writing, “When you walk into a small-town diner in Vermont, you expect a hot cup of coffee, a plate of eggs, and maybe a friendly chat about the weather. What you don’t expect is for the business to be run by someone who openly wishes death upon her neighbors.
“That’s exactly what’s happening at The Hartland Diner,” Cross wrote. “Instead of building community, Bartner has turned her diner’s Facebook page into a platform for rage, insults, and hostility. The evidence is right there in her own posts.
“One post calls Republicans ‘filthy Rebs’ who should ‘die screaming in a fire.’ Another celebrates the death of Charlie Kirk and spins it into bizarre conspiracy theories. Others sneer at Christians, mocking scripture and praying that white evangelicals would vanish by sundown so ‘the rest of us can eat our pie in peace.’”
On her Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/share/1DHKnkyj8A/) Bartner calls her diner a “Scrappy little independent-Jewish-woman-owned local business. Progressive values, great food. Immaculate vibe. LGBTQIA+ Safe Space. Black Lives Matter. Free Palestine. PRO America. ANTI Trump.”
Now, if you want a little politics with your eggs over easy, the Hartland Diner is apparently the go-to place, in none other than the heartland of Vermont.
The food is hot – and so are the politics!

This smells like it belongs in the same category with the baker who was sued for not baking a wedding cake for a gay couple.
The cake issue was that the baker was being asked by a customer to PARTICIPATE IN a religiously-abhorrent action, by actively decorating a cake with symbolism hostile to his faith, and the government could not use public accommodation/civil rights law to force him. His First Amendment Rights restricting the government from interfering with his religious freedom superceded, as it should. Imagine a Jewish baker being asked by a clansman to adorn a cake with a swastika?

Great points. Also ridiculous, per the cake thing, imagine walking onto a welding shop and demanding a giant 20 foot chicken. Not very different. The whole premise was unfounded. You cannot force someone to make something that they don’t make and don’t want to.

By coincidence, I happened to have breakfast at this diner two days ago. The decor is stunning in its support of every radical left-wing personality and cause imaginable (and some unimaginable) and its violent, rabid hatred of everyone and everything that doesn’t meet with the owner’s approval. I have to grudgingly admit that the food—including a massive, $20 pancake—was pretty good, but the experience was truly frightening. Those in our party spoke in hushed tones or not at all for fear of being ejected or poisoned!
We do not have to patronize establishments like this, and personally, if I have that knowledge beforehand, I won’t. Thanks to Mr. Cohen for the headsup .
She can keep her Pancakes and her hateful attitude! I hope she loses a lot of business! I know I will make sure not to ever go there but I will let my Trump and Charlie Pride be out wherever I do go! We know we are nothing like what she is spewing about us at all. She must drink a pitcher of that hatred Kool Aid a day!

No one here is talking about the president. All I have to say is that Trump didn’t start the name calling. The media did. Neither did any of the Republicans that walk into that restaurant.
This isn’t about verbal insults. It’s about policies. Trump’s policies uphold our Bill Of Rights, despite the lies of people such as yourself.
Unfortunately there are a lot of people that support her. It’s sad.
The double standard would dictate that this restaurant will cater to it’s preferred clientele, either for reason of targeted marketing, virtue signaling or a combo thereof.
If a restaurant similarly catered openly to those on the right, the result would be protests, doxing, vandalism and violence directed at the restaurant, it’s patrons, their vehicles and it’s food service providers and other vendors.

Absolutely True but I doubt anyone would really do that but I would eat there for sure. Plus, has anyone stood outside her restaurant protesting. I doubt that also. That just isn’t us! We are better and stronger than that!!
A diner for blue customers will lead to a diner for red customers. I guess history does repeat itself
America’s political double standard will not allow this. A blue diner can exist and conservatives will respect the free expression rights of the proprietors and patrons, but a red diner’s operators and patrons would be subject to political violence. In the same way, when Charlie Kirk was murdered, those who loved and respected him quietly and respectfully shared hugs and prayers that evening. If a prominent figure on the left was similarly targeted because of his/her expressed views, there would have been rioting and looting in all major cities for weeks on end. That is the sad difference between the political left and right at this point in history.
Boycott… that’s how you respond to this hateful person!! Hit it where it hurts her pocketbook!!

That’s what happens when you get gold stars in school, when young ,just for showing up, rather then learning good citizenship.
No one in their right mind would do this ,that runs a business, that depends on the public… unless they seek media attention, for whatever reason.
Perhaps she’s setting the business up, so she can exit…for example, “Leftist lightening!”, to collect insurance, and blame it on those darn Nazis who think different then she…stranger things have happened in Vermont.

Trump Derangement Syndrome is the general term applied to the irrational behavior exhibited by leftists these days…but their overall mental malaise has roots that run much deeper. It is complicated by prominent democrats in government and the media who conflate speech with violence, supported by their bizarre theories about “microaggression”, which they use to justify their violent responses when they can’t get their way in lawful elections or by court decisions.

What a sad time for our state. This diner, while well within free speech rights, is indicative of the depths of division that are far too prevalent, even herer in Vermont where many of us hold to the the traditional belief in tolerance of differing opinions. That is as long as they remain within the law and are peaceful.

I’ve been around BIPOLAR people in my business, not in my business noted. This person has all the traits of BIPOLAR, friendly to those that are accepted and a hateful wrath to those that don’t subscribe to her ideological mind. She doesn’t realize she needs help and the people working with her don’t know the symptoms and suggest she needs medical help and take a prescription.
