Three-year-old who fell in Smuggs water tank dies

Over the weekend, a three-year-old boy who fell into a storage tank of water July 6 died at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

Tate Holtzman of Cambridge died of accidental drowning, the Chief Medical Examiner determined. The incident occurred at about 2:45 p.m. when the child was walking in an area adjacent to an outdoor splash pad at the resort and fell into the below-ground storage tank filled with water.

On-duty lifeguards were able to free the boy from the basin. Initial investigation indicates he was in the water for approximately 10 minutes. He was transported by ambulance to the University of Vermont Medical Center. He had been participating in a Smugglers Notch Resort day-camp program at the time of the incident.

  1. Poor little baby. How heartbreaking. How could this have even happened?? Wasn’t this property inspected for use a recreational area?? May God help and bless his parents always.

    Where is the outcry as when a truck gets stuck in their precious notch?
