A Utica, NY teen was shot early Sunday morning at a Burlington skate park, police say.
Sunday morning, August 11 at 4:38 AM, the Burlington Police Department dispatch center received news from the University of Vermont Medical Center that a male had arrived at the emergency department with a gunshot wound to the chest.
It was reported that the shooting had occurred at the A_Dog Skatepark on the Burlington waterfront. With assistance from the University of Vermont Police Department and the South Burlington
Police Department, officers responded to both the hospital and the alleged shooting scene.
At UVMMC, officers attempted to interview the victim and three witnesses. At the skatepark, officers recovered ballistics evidence.
The victim was identified as a 17-year-old juvenile from Utica, New York. He was in the company of another adult male from New York, and two young men from Vermont, one of whom has been associated with previous Burlington gunfire incidents. None of these persons gave forthcoming, credible accounts.
Medical personnel treated the victim for a non-life-threatening wound to his torso, after which the hospital released him.
Police took him into custody as an out-of-state runaway to await action by the Vermont Department for Children and Families and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at (802) 658-2704.
After multiple catch-and-releases, man disrupts Mass at Burlington cathedral, and is released again – A Burlington man with 230 police encounters was released by a judge after police had arrested him twice within 24 hours – once for disrupting services at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Burlington.
Friday, August 9, at about 1:30 PM, police arrested Patrick Ibbotson for violating conditions of release in the Marketplace garage, stemming from a July 25 arrest. A judge ordered police to release Ibbotson with a citation. On Saturday, August 10, at 10 AM, police arrested Ibbotson for violating a trespass order and violating conditions of release at a location on Buell Street. A judge ordered police to release Mr. Ibbotson with a citation.
A few hours later, on Saturday, August 10, at about 4 PM, the BPD’s Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting that a male who was interrupting mass at the Cathedral of St Joseph and violating an active trespass notice. The caller identified the male as Ibbotson, with whom the caller was familiar from multiple prior negative encounters. Officers arrived on scene and located Mr. Ibbotson on the property.
Officers learned that Ibbotson had been escorted out of the church prior to the start of the service, after which the doors were locked to prevent his reentry. Mr. Ibbotson proceeded to bang on the doors during the service. Police took Mr. Ibbotson into custody for unlawful trespass (for violating a previously issued notice of trespass), disorderly conduct, and violating of conditions.
After this second arrest in one day, a judge again ordered police to release Ibbotson with a citation.
Burlington police say Ibbotson is well known to law enforcement. In the past year, since August 2023, Ibbotson has had nearly 230 law enforcement encounters. During those incidents, he Ibbotson has been arrested 69 times. More than a dozen of those arrests have been for violating conditions of release, indicating that these conditions do not ameliorate his behavior.
Ibbotson has approximately 35 active criminal court cases pending in Vermont Superior Courts.
Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at (802) 658-2704.

Lemme guess: another 5th generation Vermonter.
“been associated with previous Burlington gunfire incidents” – So someone who has already proven that they can’t be trusted to live orderly with the rest of us, gives the government authority to put hurdles in front of the people that need to protect themselves, from the people that government has failed to remove to begin with. Seems legit.
They want it to get so bad that you to beg them for a lawless nanny police state.
He was almost assuredly the right race. You are obviously a bigot who insists upon following the rule of law or the Constitution and other inconsequential, frivolous conventions.
But if you can somehow continue to survive, you will eventually come to accept that Communism or authoritarianism are highly superior to a free society & having a government which replaces God & faith, and lords over you are for the best. Ask Kamala & her fellow traveler – Walz.
Another “vibrant” night brought to you by the defund-the-police movement and progressive governance. Well done Burlington, you helped promote this by voting for a progressive mayor and in November you will have the opportunity to put the icing on the cake by voting for cackling kamela and tampon tim.
And these ignorant, thoroughly indoctrinated jack-azzes WILL!
I will never forget the face of the mother of a young boy of about ten glaring at me as I did an unintentional doubletake when I glanced at her son dressed in a pink fairy princess replete with a magic wand, at a local ice-cream stand.
If you can get people to actually believe that males can turn into females and vice versa, you can get them to believe anything – such as Harris & Walz NOT really being COMMUNISTS and Trump being the “threat” to Democracy.
Tampons in a MALE LT. Governor’s desk drawer and installed in public school’s boy’s restrooms. Sick, perverted, and it MUST be stopped!!!!
Why can’t they charge the Adult New Yorker for kidnapping for crossing state lines with a minor as obviously the 17 yr old is a run a way state kid or the cops would have called his parents.
It’s called street justice, just more trash up here from one of our neighboring states,
probably an illegal firearm was used, along with a bad drug deal !!
Burlington which used to be the queen city, has now become a ” cesspool ” and this is one more example, let’s see how Burlington’s Mayor and her ” Gaggle Of Fools ” AKA city council handle this concern for the taxpayers, they’ll turn a blind eye like always………….
Diversity is Vermont’s strength!!! Let us all band together to express our sincerest gratitude to this legislature for the murders, the rapes, and the shooting & stabbings, drug running, and sex trafficking that help our once-safe communities to become bastions of “equity” and “inclusion”!
just another day at the vermont zoo///
December 12, 2022 (VT Digger): “The Burlington City Council on Monday night unanimously approved a resolution seeking to prevent gun violence, calling it a “public health crisis.”…”While the resolution does call for legislative action, Joe Magee, P-Ward 3, said that both at the local and state level, more should be done and that people shouldn’t “enforce our way out of this problem.” “We must do the hard and crucial work to address the root causes of violence to create lasting change and/or interrupt the cycle of harm,” Magee said. Portions of the resolution echo language developed by GunSense Vermont, a gun control advocacy group that has sought to pressure the Legislature to repeal the Sportsman’s Bill of Rights through municipal resolutions similar to Burlington’s version.”
Nearly two years later, it appears the group Gun(non)Sense Vermont and the Progressives (aka Regressives) are making incredible progress addressing the “public health crisis.” How much bank have they burned through addressing the issue? Is any community safer with these fools running the asylum? How many more dead bodies or statistics on a police blotter does it take to break their spell and laundering services?
Unfortunately, they dont see the person wielding the gun with multiple repeat offenses as a “public health threat”. Those persons are a threat even without a gun.
Shouldn’t the lead sentence read- A Utica NY drug dealer…?
The definition of INSANITY:

230 ENCOUNTERS AND FREE????? The “Judge ” is the real criminal. Seems he is saving money by not hiring bodyguards.
If he had disrupted a service at the Islamic Society of Vermont, that would have surely resulted in his being held. Harassment at any Christian or Jewish service is a completely different situation in woke, progressive Vermont. Do you see the difference?
Patrick Ibbottson began harassing priests and congregants at St Joseph’s Cathedral and St Francis Xavier in Winooski beginning in August, 2023 from what I could ascertain. At first the priests and parishioners did their best to be charitable, advising him about the faith, asking him to be respectful, taking him out to breakfast, giving him rides and money if he needed it, etc. Out of Christian charity, folks did not report these incidences to police, hoping that loving kindness would turn him around. Some folks spent many hours with him, giving him rides from far corners of the state, feeding him, etc. But after dozens of these unreported incidences, some of which I witnessed, the hate and danger he exuded and damage he caused at St Francis Xavier and in Winooski were just overwhelming that we had to start reporting these incidences. A personal conversation with officer Hatfield of BPD and social workers Cheryl and Whitney re Patrick last October was sobering. After the disruption last Saturday afternoon during Mass at St Joseph’s Cathedral, Monsignor Routhier declared he was personally very afraid of Patrick and asked to plead with our public officials for action re Patrick. I could supply a lot more details which might be legally unwise? Anyways, the judicial shortage probably explains the delay even though a judge recommended he attend AA months ago. A lot of good that did. Would a reasonable person conclude that Sarah George and our judiciary hate the Catholic Church and Catholics and secretly are enjoying this torture of local Catholics? That might seem overwrought but you have not experienced nor seen nor heard what I have re Patrick since a year ago.
Perhaps Mr. Ibbottson could be convinced to incur of his wrath at the Islamic Society of Vermont mosque or at one of the local LGBTXYZ+% advocacy group offices, whereupon he would be charged with hate crimes and locked up pre-trial.
Because of Patrick Ibbotson, St Joseph’s Cathedral and St Francis Xavier are closed except during services.
Nice try, Rich, except that when I gave Patrick a ride last September, he extolled the virtues of Islam. As a history major, I had lots to say about Islamic conquests and persecution of Christians. For those who want to throw the Crusades at me, let us talk about the 50,000 Christians killed in Nigeria over the last number of years.
