This afternoon, Mayor Miro Weinberger called for community-wide support of Burlington’s Palestinian, Muslim, and Arab neighbors and invites Vermonters to join a candle light vigil at the intersection of Pearl and Church Streets tonight at 5:30 pm.

Mayor Weinberger made the following statement:

“The terrible, unprovoked attack of three young visitors to Burlington was a shocking violation of the values of this welcoming and inclusive community. These bright, caring young men are good friends to each other, committed to their families, and are loved and valued by many. They deserved to enjoy a peaceful and joyful visit to our city, not the irreparable violence they endured.

The shooting has also shaken many Palestinian, Arab and Muslim Vermonters, by confirming their worst fears, that vitriol, hate and Islamophobia would find them here in Vermont while war continues in the Middle East.

We cannot let the terrible actions of one man define this vibrant and diverse place. I urge Burlingtonians to stand together in support of these victims, their families, and all of our Muslim and Arab neighbors and once again demonstrate the profound kindness and strength of this community. We have an opportunity to do this at tonight’s vigil, and through further actions in the days to come.”

  1. The attack on these men wasn’t the result of racism. It was the result of lawlessness imposed by the Woke agenda.

  2. Holy Holy Holy, all bow before Molech, virtue signaling, idealistic, progressive Burlington. This is a Karmic Karen event where lots of candles and keffiyehs are brandished about by left wing , white poster pumping, neurotic Nancys protesting in a Hall of mirrors with pious panims practicing intolerance and terminal self-righteousness. Pathetic liberalism.

  3. I wonder if the LGBTQ++ community will participate in this Islamic celebration.

  4. I don’t deny this shooting was a terrible thing. I also doubt it was due to Islamophobia; I’m pretty sure the shooter is mentally ill. That said, I’ve no doubt that leftist Jews and others will be falling all over themselves to demonstrate their affection and support for the Muslim community. I do have to ask, how many Muslims have supported the Jews devastated by the Oct 7 Hamas attacks and kidnapping of civilians? Has anyone noticed that the rallies in support of Israel and the hostages were peaceful. No hate was voiced or promoted. The same can’t be said for the pro Hamas/Gaza rallies which have been full of violent rhetoric and aggression. I’m sure that VT Digger will rush to cover any and all vigils for Muslims although it couldn’t be bothered to cover any rallies supportive of Israel.

    • oh, don’t look there, there are shiny things over here to see….there is somebody to hate over here…..what ever you do…..don’t look in the “medicine” cabinet.

      no, no, no…..don’t look there.

Now please, get back to the regular mind control programing of your smart phone while eating some genetically modified, Monsanto poisoned food.

  5. Weinberger is displaying serious irresponsibility by claiming this to be a bias crime before any solid evidence of that scenario has been legally and formally established. At least even Sarah George has held off on making that claim so far. Why should anyone support any particular ethnic or religious demographic simply because of such an affiliation by the victims of this crime? And please let’s stop pretending that the magical progressive utopia of Vermont with all the rainbows and unicorns should somehow be free of “hate and vitriol” when we saw it on full display against Trump supporters after the 2016 election and toward the law enforcement community all through the post-George Floyd era. It is the left that has made hate and vitriol fashionable.
