Scott will veto school funding bill

Won’t support Trump even if friend Doug Burgum is the VP

By Guy Page

Gov. Phil Scott said will veto H.887, the education funding ‘yield’ bill, he said at a press conference today, Wednesday May 15. He promised to offer new solutions to the $200 million funding shortfall that led to the bill’s 13.8% property tax increase and the creation of two other new forms of taxation.

Scott also criticized the Legislature’s last-minute rush to pass legislation, which he called “unprecedented.”

Of the more than 100 bills passed during the 2024 session, 60 passed in the last week – and 39 on the last day.

Gov. Scott said the 11th-hour push bodes poorly for legislators’ comprehension of the bills’ content and impact. He intends to write numerous letters of constructive feedback on some bills, regardless of whether he signs, vetoes or lets them pass into law without his signature.

“I question whether those passing them had read them, much less understood the ramifications,” Scott said.

“You can expect more letters than usual,” Scott said.

Scott said he’s “50/50” on vetoing H.687, the Act 250 reform bill. He expressed concern about its impact on much-needed development of rural housing.

Scott was asked why he opted to run for re-election, and why he’s attending the state convention May 18. “Somebody needs to be there to be the voice of Vermonters,” Scott said. Scott said he’s planning to speak at the GOP state convention Saturday in part because Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota is speaking. He likes Burgum personally and also his ideas on carbon sequestering and drug treatment.

Wil Burgum’s recent support for Trump outside a New York courthouse bring criticism on Scott?

“I’ve been very clear, I’ve not  been a Trump supporter. Even if my good friend Doug Burgum becomes the VP, I won’t support the ticket,” Scott said.

Scott also said “there must be a dozen Democrats” not running for re-election in the House. He said he hopes some Democrats who voted with the supermajority position on bills he opposes can be replaced with moderate Democrats and Republicans.

  1. Phil Scott is voting for the single most destructive President in American history AGAIN!…..Enough said.

  2. The Republican National Committee should expel the Commiecrat enabler King Philip the 1st Eunuch King of Castrati from the Republican Party. They should not let him attend the convention.
I would love to be a fly on the wall when God forbid there is some natural disaster in VT, and he has to call Trump on the phone for help.

  3. For the record, Phil Scott is NOT “the voice” of this Vermonter.

  4. The Democrats need to override Scott’s veto, otherwise, the power of veto is useless. Scott needs to be voted out of office. Relative to human needs, he is a monster.

  5. Good for Phil, electing someone to lead a democracy that doesn’t believe in democracy is a foolish idea.

    • Show me in the supreme law of the land where the word “democracy” is mentioned anywhere? All I see is:

      Article IV Section 4
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.

Democracy is the most foolish idea ever. Democracy is domestic violence. The majority of people are too stupid to tie their shoes, how are they going to be smart enough to tell us how to live? In a Republic, the majority can never have any authority to overrule your natural rights. This constant use of the word democracy in political talk, is perversion.

    • Of course you support him Beck, he supported H89 and you along with 23 other VT GOP State Reps voted for it.
Those who think Scott is fiscally responsible have ignored the multitude of times he has stolen Vermonters tax dollars from VT Children at risk from domestic abuse and those who were harmed by the Tobacco Industry. He funds planned parenthood, illegal invaders and blackmailed school districts with high jab rates while illegally withholding funding for school districts where the parents actually protected their children from the poisons.
Beck and 10 other VT GOP Reps also voted for protections of immunity to anyone who provides surgical or chemical destruction of a Childs reproductive capability.

Scott is the voice of those who hate Trump and would watch the Country burn by voting for Biden.
He is glad Sanders is running again so he can leach of the Federal Govt.
Real VT Conservatives will support the Pro Life and Constitutional Military Veteran running for Sanders seat.
Not Scott though, his trough is filled with cash.
Proves who he is, just like your voting record proves who you are.

FYI, America is a Republic. You and all those screaming about protecting ” our democracy ” want majority rule over individual rights guaranteed by our Constitution.

  6. >>>”“I question whether those passing them had read them, much less understood the ramifications,” Scott said.<<<

Shouldn't this be questioned about every single one of them?
