U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday accused U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other federal immigration agencies of operating outside the law and called on Congress to block additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security.
In a statement released by his Burlington office, Sanders said ICE is “out of control, ignoring the law and our Constitution,” and urged lawmakers to vote against any new appropriations for DHS.
Sanders outlined a series of actions he says Congress and the administration must take to curb abuses by federal immigration authorities:
– Block any additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security
Remove ICE, CBP and other federal immigration forces from Minnesota and Maine
– End warrantless arrests and prohibit stops based on race or language
End qualified immunity for ICE and CBP agents
– Require ICE and CBP agents to be unmasked and clearly identified
End detention and deportation of U.S. citizens
– Investigate and prosecute DHS officers who break the law, and require DOJ and DHS cooperation with state and local investigations
– Repeal billions in funding for ICE and CBP and redirect the money to health care
– Impose strict national standards on detention centers and hold them accountable for human rights abuses
The statement comes amid continued national debate over immigration enforcement, the scope of federal authority, and conditions inside detention facilities, issues that have intensified during the current election cycle and in the wake of expanded enforcement actions in several states.

What part of LAW ENFORCEMENT does BS not understand? Enforcing laws that his social group made after 9/11.
Sanders should provide proof of his statements, what Constitution article and laws(?) not just rhetoric for the media and the feeble minded. Be nice if the Bern got out of Government and Vermont and reduce his salary to zilch. Brooklyn beckons. But that’s Bern’s whole government life, sound bites.
He can’t provide proof – he’s just running his mouth as usual! It’s like the ‘threat to democracy’ line they constantly repeat.
To which they should be removed from office for, we are supposed to be a republic. Democracies are a transitional government to oligarchy (Vermont already has become) or Marxist/socialist/communist government, pick your flavor they all taste like pig excrement.
Of course he know this because he wants to watch the revolution from his porch on lake Champlain.
All these Commiecrats get on the tube and scream about this being unconstitutional and that being unconstitutional and the CNN, MS NOW or mainstream media talking head never asks what article or clause of the constitution is being violated. Lee is right but it’s the media that lets them run their mouths and abets their duplicity.
Hey Bernie, let’s start with the Supremacy Clause being violated by every sanctuary state and city.
This is all about Donald Trump. Bernie and rest of his left wing zealots will not rest until he is out of office one way or the other. This is all rhetoric to distract the country from what is being unearthed throughout the country – unabashed squandering of TRILLIONS of DOLLARS over many many years that have kept the left in power through unaudited social programs. May God forgive him.

Ice in Vermont, is one of the best employers that Senator Leahy, was able to bring to Vermont.
The amazing work they do for the security of this nation, speaks volumes.
Bernie as a politician, has limited knowledge of what it takes, to be able to locate, identify, investigate, meet all expectations to bring a case to a positive outcome.
He knows one thing, dramatize negative beliefs, shout and bitterly demean lawful efforts, and seek areas of the country that have little or no conflicts with the work ICE officers are completing.
Pointing out his real focus is in anyway possible to appear as the feel good guy, redirecting funding to health care…forgetting many states illegally gave non-residents health care. Costing the system billions in unfunded resource’s.
January 3rd, 2031 cannot come fast enough.
Our America-hating senator once again shows his America hatred. Doing all he can to harm Vermont and our country. He wants all illegals here, including the super criminals, so our next cencus locks in his permanant communists. He, Welch, and Balint are sickening. Vermont needs to wake up.

Ignoring the laws and Constitution?….that was the last administration Bernie and people like you that allowed millions and millions of unvetted, illegal immigrants into the country compromising our saftey and soveintry. This is a necessary correction.

Hey Bernie guess what? The Big Beautiful Bill funds Homeland Security until 2029. Good luck repealing that. Didn’t you think that Trump didn’t know how much time and money he needed to get most of them out.
