A Vermont abortion rights organization in deep red ink wants state taxpayers and ratepayers to bail it out. And its Vermont political action committee (PAC) is warning political candidates their endorsement depends on whether they’ll deliver.
In an August 1 press release, Planned Parenthood of New England – the region’s leading abortion provider and a major provider of transgender drug therapy – announced “it needs significant financial support to continue offering its lifesaving health care services across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont…..the organization is facing a projected financial deficit of $8.6 million over the next three years and could be forced to change how and where it offers services.”
At a press conference, the organization’s spokespeople cited a ‘significantly broken’ health care system and ‘endless political attacks’ as the main drivers. They went on to name Covid-19, inflation, insufficient reimbursement rates, and an increased demand for their free and discounted care – including abortions for out-of-state women – as factors that have worsened the financial situation.
Despite having the smallest population of the Northern New England states, Vermont has BY far the highest PPNNE customer traffic.
PPNNE claims it served more than 32,000 patients, totaling more than 47,000 visits, in the past fiscal year, 56% of whom had low incomes. In the last three years, PPNNE has provided $14 million worth of free and discounted health care.
- ME: 8,388 patients; 11,355 visits; 58% low income
- NH: 11,223 patients; 15,717 visits; 58% low income
- VT: 13,354 patients; 19,940 visits; 54% low income
PPNNE has 15 health centers across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, as well as a telehealth program:
- ME: 4 health centers in Biddeford, Portland, Sanford, and Topsham
- NH: 4 health centers in Derry, Exeter, Keene, and Manchester.
- VT: 7 health centers in Barre, Brattleboro, Burlington, Rutland, St. Johnsbury, White River Junction, and Williston.
The organization claims that since the fall of Roe v. Wade in 2022, PPNNE has served 7,800 abortion patients from 32 states plus D.C.
PPNNE of course isn’t the only health care (to use their own descriptor) organization running in the red. Demographics and the Legislature’s pumping Covid-era federal funding – now gone – into Medicaid reimbursement are big cost drivers for everyone.
No legislator – no matter how faithful in the past – should expect a great score merely by resting on their laurels, PPPNE warned in its questionnaire introduction. “Previous endorsements do not guarantee future endorsements. New candidates who score 100% on our survey will receive endorsements.”
However, it is the only medical service provider with a former vice-president as Speaker of the House (Rep. Jill Krowinski, D-Burlington), and with a robust legislative candidate vetting system.
And this year, the Planned Parenthood Vermont Action Fund (PPVTAF) candidate questionnaire focuses mostly on the Vermont Legislature to give them money from taxpayers and health insurance ratepayers. Five of the 17 questions – including the first three – are about a legislator’s willingness to allocate funds on their behalf.
Question One: “Will you support efforts to increase state funding for sexual and reproductive health care,” specified as “birth control, abortion, gender-affirming care, and family planning.”
The next two questions demand that state-operated Medicaid rates be increased and coverage expanded.
Question Two: “Will you support increasing Medicaid payment rates for sexual and reproductive health care services that better reflect the true cost of providing care to patients?”
Question Three: “Will you protect expanded coverage of family planning through Medicaid, to improve access to preventive services and family planning care?”
Then after posing a few policy-related questions, PPPNE brings up money again: “Will you advocate for increased investment and protections in sexual and reproductive health care, including contraception and abortion?”
There’s an ask for “an emergency one-time appropriation” for abortion drugs: “If necessary, would you support an emergency one-time appropriation to ensure Vermont has an adequate supply to continue to provide abortion medication to Vermont patients?”
Returned candidate questionnaires must be received by September 6. Any candidate receiving a 100% or very high score will almost certainly have said ‘yes’ to most or all of the questionnaire’s five funding questions. VDC will publicize any announced results.

Perhaps they should regard their financial failure as a spiritual message and get out of the business before a Sodom and Gomorrah judgement.

Don’t we have hospitals for life saving events? Don’t we have a really expensive insurance policy in Vermont?
There is no way it should be legal for tax payer money to fund a non-profit, we can’t have the threat of our property being foreclosed upon because we didn’t pay our Planned Parenthood tax.
Yet across Vermont and every town, they are making citizens pay some non-profit. It doesn’t matter how good it is, tax money shouldn’t be used for this, It is standard operating procedure.
To add insult to injury, PP get’s tax payer money, sends to to PP Pac, they the Pac, funds all the Vermont Dems if they answer their questions 100% you get $3500 to run your campaign.
I got a 0% on their quiz.
To which they talked about how 50% of Vermont births were unplanned and this statistic hasn’t changed in decades, so my reply was, I guess they are extremely ineffective.
All the people who support PP, should pay PP….not tax payers. Here is an easy VTGOP win for all votes, except for the fact the Gov. Scott keeps sending them tax payer money….
We are being robbed blind and nobody is talking about it.

What you put out…you get back, but don’t drag in the taxpayer to bail out your evil business model…let the market forces have their way.

Vermont’s small population cannot sustain 7 Planned Parenthood clinics. Now whose fault is that? Bailout denied.
Note that NH has twice as many people as Vermont and more abortion visits. The VT welfare state is in trouble. The PP cough, cough, healthcare centers were visited by people from 32 other states for abortion services. Build it and they will come, but in this case, many aren’t paying. Your legislative, progressive super idiot majority will now focus on another payroll deduction to fund abortions so they will get their $3,200 campaign donation. And the voters will remain stupid and continue to vote for progressives with their feelings instead of their brains and their empty wallets for fiscal insanity.
It takes serious chutzpah to call a the murdering of the unborn “lifesaving healthcare services.” I would say you can have a taxpayer bailout over my dead body, but I wouldn’t want you to expand your business model.
No way! We have enough that we pay for already. If you want to run your business then start charging the clients that are using your services. We are over burdened enough as it is in this state.
Why shouldn’t the state be able to sterilize all youth without the permission of parents? It is well within their purview according to Article 22 of the constitution (“unless justified by a compelling State interest…”). A recent Vermont State Supreme Court ruling regarding medical treatment has affirmed this. Of course, “they” will choose which kids to apply the sterilization procedure to…one of the hidden benefits of being a member of the state party. Who has the resources any more to go against the state?
I want to see the salaries and perks for the administrators and how many of them there are. I’m sure if they trimmed the staff and salaries they’d have plenty of money
Medical abortion or the “abortion pill” now accounts for some 60% of all abortions today. This can be done at one’s home with the baby being flushed down one’s toilet.
Thus medical technology-or big Pharma-has displaced much of Planned Parenthood’s revenue stream. “Transgender therapy” is a means to diversify their business model in order to replace the lost revenues from the use of the abortion pill.
In Daniel J. Mahoney’s book, The Idol of Our Age, Dr. Mahoney writes:
“Evil can ensconce itself in the very substance of the good, leading to a profound spiritual, theological, moral, and political corruption, through a terrible,… falsification of the good. This is the most insidious path that evil can take, since it insinuates evil in the very heart of goodness.”
The unborn child is the good. The claim of “choice” is the “falsification of the good.” Abortion is the evil.
Progressivism doesn’t stop at birth, but at its more natural habitat… death:
The elderly are the good. The claim of “Death with Dignity” is the “falsification of the good.” Euthanasia is the evil.
“Transgenderism” is evil‘s next stop.
The order of charity demands the defense of these vulnerable lives.

Good ideas don’t require violent force to enact. Where are all their staunch supporter donations? Financial failure is a prime indicator that the service isn’t valued by society.

In the brief, the discussion will be had, figures will get thrown around and then come time to vote, the House speaker holds up a sign that tells/dictates how the ‘seats’ will vote and if they don’t agree, those then will get vilified, mocked and persecuted. The exact same procedure was done to override the governor regarding the 13.8% tax hike we all just got hit with. Which will most likely help in the funneling and money laundering of the money that is transferred from WE THE PEOPLE OF VERMONT to the ‘pirate criminal gatekeepers’ who lack the moral compass of Divine. As mentioned before, PP is a 501c corp. It can raise it’s own funds from donations. The government should never be spending taxpayer funds on non-profit corps. If they can’t raise enough funds to operate then they should just go out of business like any other non-profit. If you can’t raise enough funds, you probably are not needed in the public’s eye.
Have the baby killers pay as services are rendered. Democrat women’s psychotic fixation on abortion may be a new Freudian syndrome: women who have no heterosexual prospects who wishfully project the fear of an unwanted pregnancy that is very unlikely to ever happen.
