Governor Phil Scott will attend the National Governors Association Winter meeting in Washington, D.C. this week, where he is expected to meet President Trump.

In addition to meetings with other governors and diplomats, on Saturday Governor Scott, who serves as co-chair of the NGA Public Health and Disaster Response Task Force, will lead a discussion with Hawaii Governor Josh Green on border security with the National Guard Bureau and Department of Homeland Security.

While in D.C., Governor Scott will also participate in a meeting of the New England governors. He will also join fellow governors for a meeting with President Trump and other officials at the White House on Friday.

President Trump announced Tuesday his appointments to the Council of Governors, “a bipartisan group of state leaders tasked with strengthening state-federal partnerships on key national security, disaster response, and military coordination issues.”

Appointed members included Ron Desantis (FL), Kathey Hochul (NY), Gretchen Whitmer (MI), and Josh Shaperio (PA)

The White House says, “The Council of Governors was established by the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008 and formally created by Executive Order 13528 in 2010. It serves as a key forum for governors and federal officials to enhance collaboration on disaster response, National Guard operations, and military integration within the states.”

Governor Phil Scott, who was appointed by President Biden to serve a two-year term on the council of Governors, was not appointed for another term but is still serving as The Public Health and Disaster Response Task Force co-chair.

“We don’t have a direct line to the White House as you might imagine, even as a Republican Governor, particularly because of some of the statements that I’ve made,” said Governor Scott in yesterday’s press conference in a response to a question from Kevin McCallum of Seven Days. “Having said that, we have had some dialogue with them. They’ve forewarned us about certain things over the last month or so. So, that’s a start, and we’ll continue to try and foster that. I believe the best approach is to be reasonable, take the emotion out of it, and try to deal with whatever comes our way. Much like we do when we’re experiencing an event, a pandemic, a flood, or any other type of emergency.”

Senator Bernie Sanders and Peter Welch have been extremely critical of the new Trump Administration, Bernie Sanders writing on X, “The Founding Fathers of this country created the longest standing democracy on earth and millions of Americans fought and died to preserve it. Trump is betraying their vision and moving us to authoritarianism,”  and Welch saying he’s on a “illegal rampage.”

When asked if some of the rhetoric coming from our federal delegation is counterproductive, Scott said, “They’re accomplished politicians. They’ve earned their right to be to be in the positions they’re in, but that wouldn’t be my style, it’s just different, and I hope at some point that there’d be finding ways to work together on whatever might issues might come along, because they can’t be opposed to everything that they’re doing. There’s gotta be a path forward, and I just see this being a long four years if we’re going to set this up, and have so much controversy. It’s not healthy, it’s just not healthy,

At last year’s NGA winter meeting Governor Scott led a discussion with Hawaii Governor Josh Green on disaster recovery and response. As Governors of two small states that suffered major environmental disasters, they both shared their experience and the response from FEMA and how they could improve. “The fact is, in this day and age, if they haven’t already, every single Governor is going to experience some sort of significant emergency, and it feels like they’re increasing in frequency,” said Governor Scott in the meeting.  The meeting also included FEMA officials and other Governors.

  1. The question is, will Scott introduce himself as the Governor of Vermont or the Governor of Eastern California?

  2. Gonna get tougher, considering the level of coercion that SCOTT employed over Vermonters PUMPING UP FEAR over covid “cases” administered by a PCR test not designed to deliver a diagnosis, and at that delivered at 40 cycles which would show anything one looked for. Remember the CASES CASES CASES reported, but not the deaths, and the disappearance of the Flue? Don’t see your elderly in the nursing homes, let them die alone? Who has his number? When I go to retrieve the cormandrostenreview. (the peer review of the PCR test which revealed it was fatally flawed) from the internet, Google suddenly stops loading. I bet I can go to Amazon tho.

    • Meanwhile Scott compares the Trump administration to the Pandemic, to a Flood, to a natural disaster…..so the difference in pushing fear is?????? Oh I get it he’s doing it in an English style empyreal rule where a country polity screws over the entire British colonies in America…..well that brought about a difference of opinion sir.

      MEANWHILE

Governor Scott decides he needs to cut the budget. So, of all things to cut in the entire state of Vermont budget is free school lunch!?!? Knowing full well it’s a stupid idea, knowing full well it won’t’ get anywhere and will be a topic of discussion and GETTING NOTHING DONE again in Montpelier.

Let’s not talk of Tiff money.
Of $524 per square foot “affordable housing”
Paying PACs with tax payer money.
Paying Non =profits with tax payer money.
      Paying NGO’s
Heaven forbit anyone get laid off or frozen salary or pay cut!

These are the continual games played by Rinos and Marxists…..

He’s laughing about this whole thing of Bernie and Welch, he loves that they come out and say he’s a fascist. He loves it! He’s getting great pleasure in all of this.

  3. PS thank you Guy, for protecting and preserving freedom of speech. Unlike some others- 7, digger, national petroleum radio Burlington unfree press.

  4. Phil, I hope you brag to the Presidents face that you didn’t ” vote ” for him, like you bragged in Vermont……….what a hyprocrite, I bet you’ll grovel for some Federal funds though, how pathetic !!

Maybe Phil will ask the President to send ” DOGE” here, as we need to see where our tax dollars are going year after year, with no ” Balanced Budgets ” and just increases ?

Wake up people, we deserve better.

    • “Deserving better” is wishful thinking. There are many voters in Vermont who would prefer Gov. Krowinski, Gov. Balint, Gov. Baruth or Gov. LaLonde…and we are blessed to have Phil Scott and hopefully after he has had enough, Gov. Rodgers. Think of the folks in Maine that had their embarrassment of a governor berated by the President today…LOL.

    • It’s not up to Phil to ask for DOGE to come, it’s up to us, send emails send snail, call, but do something to get 47’s, Musks, and Homans attention,,, Kevin Hoyt caught this years ago, let’s get it fixed as the REPUBLIC we ARE 👍👍👍

  5. The only way Vermonters are ever going to get their state back is through President Trump. The local government of Vermont is corrupt and if anyone needs evidence of that fact, look around and see what you see.

There is a reckoning coming. Hang on to your hats!

  6. Doge for VT’s government and go over the books going back to the former governor ,PS.

Big changes coming ,more power and money to, and remaining in, the states, so states need to be ready for this.

Sanders and Welch are pretty much pissing in the verbal wind ,they bet on a losing friend, they make the same mistakes… over and over again.

They sound like twin, anal retentive, broken records.

Rather than attack, how about both sides working together the next 4 years, you might be surprised at the results.

The Governor is right, better to talk and work together toward common ground.

    Onward!

  7. Those of us who remember the Cold War recall how the Soviet Union was known as the country which broke treaties, disrespected the sovereignty of other countries, and ruled at home with an iron fist such that the Communist Party stifled political opponents, and political leaders ignored the rule of law. How things have changed!

  8. Phil is the ultimate political sea captain. His ship has no anchor and no rudder but it has a full set of sails that will blow him wherever the wind blows him much to the detriment of the Vermont voters that continue to love him for whatever reason.

  9. You don’t have a direct line to the White House? I thought you were a Republican. All other Republicans have a direct line to the White House.
Oh, what a trick bag you put yourself into Phil, way to go.

    • Of course not, he lives in Commiecrat land. He made all those remarks against Trump because he never thought Trump would win. Now he is in an untenable position that he put himself in.

    • Wouldn’t it be nice if our representatives had conversations with us common folk? You know why they don’t? They don’t care about you or what you think. They also cannot defend what they are doing, so best not to interact.

      Too bad.

They are also used to the press running cover for them and keeping up the propaganda so they don’t have to.

Vermont is a totally subverted state.

  10. I happen to catch a quick glimpse of a handshake, appeared polite and cordial. Good move on Phil’s part to be cordial – seeing the President publically call out Janet Mills, D-Maine, not once but twice, she’s now the most viral Governor in the nation. LOL! Maine is mostly “red” except for the coastal areas. Mills could only utter “see you in court.” I guess she missed what happened to Fani “Cash G” Willis and Letia James, et. al.

Good on the President for representing the People’s will – per the US Constitution, as aptly stated by Steven Miller to a stunned and dead-eyed press corps. The pendulum is swinging, the criminals are on notice – the wrecking ball is now teed up in the correct direction and position per the People. A good start…the momentum of action over words is not what they had calculated into their scams.

  11. Which master does “I don’t know the definition of what a man is” Scott serve?
We shall know by his works…
    Yup… its not God…

  12. As Vermont elected officials continue to ridicule him and as previous presidents and presidents have done, he will hold Vermont accountability for their actions. How? By controlling and releasing Federal funding to our welfare funded state.

The legislators better be prepared to find ample alternative funding.

Meanwhile, Vermont Republicans continue to display their gross incompetence by not being able to put together a tax cutting and spending cutting plan.
All the VT Republican rhetoric about making cuts and failure to put together a plan is going to long lasting negative repercussions.

You can’t find a single VT Republican, elected or not, that can talk competently about cost cutting.

    • I know huh? Grant money would be the easiest low fruit hanging on the tree……but no discussion of anything.

  13. Phil is a Rino and flip flops constantly. The path forward if we are to save Vermont from radical leftists policies is true Republicans with a backbone.

  14. I have a dream: Everyone that moved here after 1970 and does not vote republican moved to another state. I cannot imagine why I had that dream.

  15. It’s way overdue for the Governor to Grow a back Bone and to face Reality! Way overdue Governor Phil Scott way overdue!!
Time to grow a set gov !!
The old saying, it’s never to late!! But time is Running out!!
