A New York woman died Saturday morning on Rte. 9 in Marlboro after being struck by a pickup truck.
At about 11 AM, state police received several 911 calls about a pedestrian that had been struck by a motor vehicle near the Hogback Mountain Scenic Overlook. Troopers responded to the scene along with Deerfield Valley Rescue and Marlboro Fire Department.
Constance J. Vrooman, 74 of Sharon Springs, New York was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Chevy Silverado was Paul A. Rokke, 77, of Belmond, Iowa, police say. The crash remains under investigation.
Swift waters hamper recovery of second VT river drowning victim – Search and recovery efforts continued Sunday, Aug. 11, to locate a missing swimmer in Warren Falls. Due to the conditions of the Mad River with high and swift water, recovery was unsuccessful.
The missing swimmer is identified as Tuan Baldino, 35, of Paramus, New Jersey, state police said.
Search efforts are expected to resume when river conditions allow, potentially as early as Monday, Aug. 12. The Vermont State Police continues to ask that anyone with information regarding this incident call the Berlin Barracks at 802-229-9191.
Baldino was the second drowning victim in a Vermonter river in four days. On, August 7, Benjamin Clapp, 14, of Morristown went missing while swimming in the Lamoille River near the B Street power dam in Morrisville. Initial recovery efforts were unsuccessful. His body was recovered the next day.
State police arrest maple thief suspect – On August 4, the Vermont State Police issued a request for information to the public, seeking assistance with identifying a person of interest related to multiple thefts from a self-service maple syrup farmstand on Corse Road in Whitingham.
State police said this weekend that, thanks to the overwhelming response and vigilance of the community, the accused, Carolyn J. Gagliarducci, 63, of Readsboro was identified and subsequently arrested on August 7. Gagliarducci was issued a criminal citation to appear in court to answer to the charge of Petit Larceny.
Wrongway driver causes collision – A Florida man faces a felony charge after he allegedly drove the wrong way on I-91 in Newbury on Friday striking a car driven by a 91-year-old Barnet resident.
Tyler Hess, 33, of Jacksonville, has been charged with grossly negligent operation, according to Vermont State Police. He is accused of driving a 2024 Volkswagen Jetta north into the southbound lanes of the interstate where he struck a 2016 Subaru Legacy driven by Cheong-Hwan Kim.
Hess sustained minor injuries. Kim was taken to DHMC with a suspected serious injury. The collision happened at milemarker 104 about seven miles north of exit 16 in Bradford and six miles south of exit 17 in Newbury. – www.jonenews.com
