The following is an open letter from Barre resident Larry McEnany to Treasurer Michael Pieciak.

To Treasurer Mike Pieciak – I am writing in response to your remarks about the shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an I.C.E. agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on January 7.

You held the position as Commissioner of the Dept. of Financial Regulation prior to becoming Treasurer. You also served under Governor Peter Shumlin during the EB5 scam. Your studies were in business law. I did not find where your studies included anything relevant to law enforcement.

You have mentioned that you are considering a possible run for the VT State Governor. You commented that you have hired Becca Balint’s top staffers to help with your campaign.

I find some of your past statements concerning. On October 14th you said people like Minnesota Governor Tim Walz – even Vermont’s own Senator Bernie Sanders – have modeled the kind of resistance we need at this moment. And what happened to them – ”nothing”, you wrote. “It’s clear. The only response right now to the Trump Administration is to fight back tooth and nail at every opportunity. There is no other choice.”

You went on to say, “That’s the exact kind of leadership we need in Vermont right now. I have to question if your choice of leadership (Governor Tim Walz) would still be considered your choice of leadership that we need in Vermont right now. I feel quite strongly that I would not want to use Tim Walz’s blueprint of how to govern for Vermonters.

Treasurer Pieciak, on January 8, 2026 you made comments on Facebook and spoke at a rally in Burlington. Your words on 2/7/2026 : Armed Federal I.C.E. Agents came into Minneapolis, Minnesota targeting humans and murdered Renee Nicole Good.

That statement was as reckless as the statement made by the Mayor and Governor of Minneapolis, Minnesota. To be so careless and irresponsible to make those unsubstantiated remarks without an investigation of the incident is not someone that shows any kind of leadership ability.

I somewhat understand, but don’t agree with the reason for the two clowns in  Minnesota making those kinds of remarks. They desperately need a distraction from one of the largest State/Government frauds in the history of Minnesota. I have to ask you Mike, what is your excuse? It appears that Renee Nicole Good’s death was used for your personal political ambitions. You have shown as much distaste as the media did at the time of the incident when their first question was wanting the name of the shooter before asking for the name of the deceased. Like you, they didn’t give a damn about Renee NicoleGood’s life. It is simply about the narrative, I.C.E. bad!. “Never Let a Good Crisis Go to Waste”.

Mike, where was your sympathy for human life when the Biden Administration’s open border policy allowed some 10 million people into our country, which killed thousands of illegal immigrants that made the trek from around the world so they could have a better life. How about the illegal immigrant women that were raped and or killed, or the many children that were sold into the sex trade. Aren’t their lives important? Did you protest against that policy? Where was your sympathy for the innocent American citizens that had their lives snuffed out by criminal illegal immigrants? I have listed a few of those innocent citizens names below:

Laken Riley 22 years old, Jocelyn Nungary 12 years old, Rachel Morin mother of five children, Hallie Halgeson and Brady Heiling teenagers, Rachel Lorenza, Sarahia Barajas, and Luis Jocsan Nanez Lopez 15 years old, to name a few. Does that loss of life mean anything to you Mike Pieciak?

Where were your protests when President Obama deported 3.1 million illegal immigrants and was assisted by local law enforcement? There was only silence!

These I.C.E. agents are trained federal law enforcement agents, and are doing the job that they have been tasked to do. These agents in many cases have wives, husbands and children. Do you care? This administration is simply undoing the disgusting situation left by the previous administration. It is costing U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars to feed, house, provide medical care, and round up and deport.

Their job could be accomplished easier, quicker and without loss of life if the left would allow local law enforcement to assist the I.C.E. agents. Here are some stats of the increase in the last year of the violence that has been perpetrated on I.C.E. Agents:

Assaults: 1,300 % 19 a year ago 275 presently.
Vehicle Attacks: 3,200% – 2 a year ago 66 presently
Death Threats: 8,000% Increase
The left is inciting this chaos with their rhetoric and costing loss of life. All this blood and death for hatred of the present administration and to increase the left’s voting population.

I hope that your future political aspirations will fade into the sunset. Based on the comments you’ve made and not made, as described above, I believe someone with your lack of integrity is not an individual that should be serving the good people of Vermont.

  1. Pieciak needs to apologize to Vermonters, who pay his salary, for his statements. Maybe he needs to relocate to MN and run for Govie there.

  2. Where are all the Vermont pension funds invested and who is controlling the bonding in Vermont???????
