For twenty years, GraniteGrok has been offering opinions, observations, and reporting stories the media either ignore or would never report from “that angle.” Many of these stories are the result of tips and leads from readers. We platform people who go where Handmaid media won’t go, and offer news and opinion that aren’t beholden to advertisers, political parties, or campaigns.
We don’t always get it right, but we try harder and report the truth no one else will touch. We are still, for example, waiting on ‘The Media’ in New Hampshire to correct the record on just about everything about the response to COVID, how Trump was right about the 202 fraud in Georgia (and not just Georgia), and that’s just for starters. You are and always will be an essential part of that. And why not kick off 2026 with a bang?
We don’t raise enough annually for me to have time to wander the state doing what passes for actual journalism (please feel encouraged to help us with that), but I have a platform and a lot of reach if you do.
New Hampshire has roughly 687 preschool or daycare centers. New Hampshire has fraud, sketchy voting practices, plenty of Democrats, and a habit of passing laws with no teeth and appointing AGs who are often too busy trying to create civil rights violations to be bothered.
If there’s no jackpot justice in it, it’s low on our list of priorities, so you will have to do the legwork – we will support and platform you.
How Many Child Care Centers?
Childcare Center US claims there are 687 childcare centers in New Hampshire, over 2100 in Massachusetts, and over 1300 childcare centers in Vermont. We should check them all, but who, besides me, thinks the Vermont number looks a little high?
Blue state, lots of Dems, worth looking into.

Here’s the link again for New Hampshire.

And Massachusetts.

Most will be legit, and many will be good, better, or even exceptional, but are they all?
Nick Shirley blew the lid off a massive fraud scheme that was also laundering taxdollars into Democratic party candidates’ campaigns in Minnesota. Steve Robinson at The Maine Wire has been doing the same for Triad (China) Weed in Maine and their Somali fraud scandal, among others. There are stories breaking in Ohio and Michigan, among others. Democrats are notorious for duplicating a model, so the odds are excellent it’s in all fifty states, including yours and mine.
That sucks, but we have great news.
You don’t need to build a website or nurture reach; we already have that. Send your tips or leads to steve@granitegrok.com, and that includes any sketchiness on any issue in or around your town. You can remain anonymous or not, as long as we know who you are. You can report it yourself, or we can help you do it.
To quote Joe Hallenbeck from The Last Boy Scout, “Water is wet, the sky is blue, and old Satan Claus, Jimmy, he’s out there, and he’s just gettin’ stronger.”
Or recall our unofficial tagline. “Tyranny never rests, so neither shall we.”
That offer goes out to everyone. We cover local, regional, national, and global stories. Your stories.
Still not your thing, you can still help.
We need your donations to keep truly independent New Hampshire-based media alive for another 20 years. Our operating costs are up at least 10% so we need to raise more in 2026. Please note that we are not a non-profit, so while your donations are not tax-deductible, THEY ARE ANONYMOUS.

Democrats would prefer that all “day care/early childhood education” be done by unionized professionals and to take it away from amateurs so they can set the standards and regulate it to their advantage. They would also prefer the same for all journalism.
The Dems are eager to license all ‘journalism’ to be sure only their approved information gets out, the Washington State AG threatened journalists with prosecution for ‘Hate Crimes’ if they report on the Day Care fraud
Remember, even private day cares need to be licensed. Right?
So let’s see, Massachusetts has a population of just over 7 million, Vermont has 687,000 population. Mass needs one day care for every 3,333 people and Vermont needs one for every 529 people?
When you look under the hood of Montpelier, you’ll quickly find why our taxes are so high…..have to support all the grifters. We are far more sophisticated in our Vermont Grift, remember EB-5? 5 billion dollar scam, overseen directly by the state of Vermont? Do you remember any public official taking the heat? Getting fired? Going to jail? Getting a needs improvement on their performance review? Nope we covered that sh%t up quickly and quietly, Leahy got the banks to pay money, and the people that paid $500k to come to America? They were told to pound sand, no citizenship for you, meanwhile we are a sanctuary state???????
See how democratic socialism works? Some pigs are more equal than others.

I checked day care centers listed on a statewide website for my town of Eden, which is rural. It is organized by ZIP code. The first ZIP for Eden is the village of Eden Mills. The website states that there are no centers in Eden Mills, but lists about 8 to be found in adjacent ZIP codes. I infer that every one of those 8 is also listed in the adjacent code. So a simple-minded count of Daycare Centers listed by ZIP will yield, statewide, hundreds of “shadow” day cares — they exist, but are double (or more) counted. The last I knew precisely, the State of Vermont performs at least one unannounced physical inspection of each licensed facility each year.
