The Vermont House of Representatives this morning elected Jill Krowinski (D-Burlington) Speaker of the 2021-2022 biennium by 138-7 vote. “The 2021 session will be remembered as the Coronavirus Recovery Session,” she said in her acceptance speech.
Krowinski did not choose to conclude her oath with “So Help Me God.” Lawmakers have the option of so swearing or by saying “affirm under the penalty of perjury.” Krowinski, a former Planned Parenthood executive and lobbyist, moved to Vermont from New York in 2002 to work on political campaigns. According to media reports, she was drawn to Vermont politics because two years prior the state was the first to legalize civil unions for same-sex couples.
Krowinski and several other House leaders and staff members met in the Well of the House. All others attended via Zoom. No other Speaker candidates were nominated. Her nomination was seconded by Republican Tom Burditt (R- West Rutland), who praised her personal support for his leadership on a child sex abuse bill. It is not known yet who voted in opposition.
BetsyAnn Wrask, the sole nominee for House Clerk, was elected 147-1. All legislators took the oath of office.
The House is also scheduled to meet this afternoon. Committee appointments have not yet been announced. Committees are scheduled to meet tomorrow afternoon.
The House also passed HR1, continuing the State of Emergency begun March 19 2020. The resolution is an agreement by the Legislative branch of government with Gov. Scott’s State of Emergency.
Krowinski announced the appointment of the following House members to the House Rules Committee: John Bartholomew (D-Hartland), Anne Donahue (R-Northfield), Rob LaClair (R-Barre Town), Emily Long (D-Newfane), Mike McCarthy (D-St. Albans), and Pattie McCoy (R-Poultney).

The ‘state of emergency’ declaration is a lie in fact. The mere declaration does not make it so. Even experts are overridden by the triers of fact! Nowhere has any Vermont authority defined an emergency in accordance with law, and there to an immediacy leading from certain death by calamity. The notion that a jurisdiction may declare a state of emergency where the death toll amounts to less than normal traffic fatalities, less than .01% of the population, involving a virus from which over 99% recover in accordance with normal flu rates, demonstrates not merely the absurdity of the declaration, but a more nefarious intent to alter our form of governance and deprive us of basic liberties, like life in the livelihood. But, now that Joe has been putsched into the oval office, maybe now it will all subside!? Restore Vermont liberty! It’s not the socialist thing to do, but the republican. They already destroyed the democracy in the steal!
