Good news! Kitten rescued from tree

Tuesday morning, November 28, as Burlington police labored on an epidemic of highly publicized shootings, Ladder 4 of the Burlington Fire Department was dispatched to a 4 month old kitten stuck in a tree in the New North End.

The firefighters arrived on scene to find the kitten about 50 feet up a large tree in the backyard of a residence. Ladder 4 positioned in a neighboring driveway and was able to utilize the aerial device to reach the kitten. The kitten was retrieved, brought down the ladder and was soon inside with his family, warming up and doing well.

The Fire Department felt obliged to explain why it posted the story. “With so much negativity in the news surrounding Burlington, we thought everyone might enjoy some good news,” the author of the post said.

“May I just say how this is the most delightful news I have heard in a very long time,” said one of the 62 comments on the Facebook post telling the tale of the kitten’s rescue.

  1. A BIG THANK YOU to the men and women fire fighters of station 4 in the new north end for rescuing this kitty. Finally a bit of good news for a change . But somebody will complain they wasted our tax dollar doing this

  2. THANK YOU, courageous and kind firefighters, for potentially risking your own life & limb in order to rescue an innocent. Amidst the turmoil and violence that the City is experiencing the last few years – your bravery stands as a beacon to the testament of the human spirit and all that is good. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, and Happy New Year!

  3. Hmmmm, I’ve always wondered if cats ultimately cannot find their way down from a tree once up. It seems they would eventually figure it out. My youngest cat (a year old) a feral kitten rescued from the bottom of an empty sap tank in a friend’s sugarhouse., is and has been an adept tree climber from day one. She will race to the top of any tree on my property and then race right back down. I’m reminded of Tim Kazurinsky from SNL doing his Ghandhi spoof skits where he would ask rhetorical philosophical questions, “and why is it that the fire department is called when a cat is stuck in a tree, how many cat skeletons have you ever seen in a tree? 😀
