Ireland Set to Pass Far-Reaching Hate Speech Laws | 2 May 2023 | Barring amendment or rejection, a pernicious new bill restricting free speech is set to become enshrined in Irish law. Under it, mere possession of material deemed “hateful” by the state could result in prison time for those accused, if the state suspects the material is intended for dissemination. Last week, the legislation, designed to shield those with “protected characteristics” from “hate,” passed through the Dail Eireann, Ireland’s lower house. Currently, it is being debated by its upper house, the Seanad Eireann. Only 14 of the Dail’s 160 members voted “no” to the bill before it headed to the Seanad. Public awareness about the bill, known as the “Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill 2022” has been minimal. It’s been largely ignored by the Irish media.
Ireland’s New Thoughtcrime Bill Is Shockingly Draconian –You could soon be sent to jail just for ‘possessing’ offensive material. By Fraser Myers | 3 May 2023 | If the Irish government gets its way, people could soon be arrested and jailed for “hate speech” – even if they never say or write a single “hateful” word. The new Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Bill, which is currently passing through the Irish parliament, contains some shockingly authoritarian provisions. The bill will outlaw the “communication” of material or speech that might “incite hatred” against people with certain protected characteristics (such as race, religion and gender). In practice, if other European hate-speech laws are any guide, “inciting hatred” tends to mean little more than causing offence. This can be punishable by up to five years in prison. As if all that weren’t draconian enough, it even makes it a crime, punishable by two years’ jail time, to simply “prepare or possess” material likely to “incite hatred.” “Possession” could mean nothing more than having an offensive video stored on your computer, or a dodgy meme saved on your phone.

Senate Budget Committee ranking member and long-time whistleblower advocate Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) said they learned of the document, known as FD-1023, from a whistleblower. “We believe the FBI possesses an unclassified internal document that includes very serious and detailed allegations implicating the current President of the United States,” Grassley said. “What we don’t know is what, if anything, the FBI has done to verify these claims or investigate further. The FBI’s recent history of botching politically charged investigations demands close congressional oversight.” Said Comer: “The information provided by a whistleblower raises concerns that then-Vice President Biden allegedly engaged in a bribery scheme with a foreign national. The American people need to know if President [sic] Biden sold out the United States of America to make money for himself. Gates-Funded ‘Edible’ Food Coating Gets Green Light From Regulators | 3 May 2023 | Apeel Sciences is a U.S.-based company that’s partnered with the Gates Foundation to develop a new product, Edipeel, an edible coating for fruit and vegetables to solve the supposed food wastage “crisis.” U.K. supermarket chains Tesco and Asda are already trialing the product, along with avocado producers to extend the shelf life of their fresh produce. The majority of concerns thus far center around the safety of the product. Perhaps more concerning is the potential lack of choice for consumers that might not want to consume produce coated in Edipeel, as supermarket chains and others get sucked into the hype. Particularly, as the coating has also been approved for use on organic produce in the U.S. further reducing consumer options and it can’t be removed even by scrubbing the produce. It’s not known whether any elements of the coating can be absorbed by the vegetables or fruit that have been coated.

Gas currently is responsible for 46% of the Empire State’s electricity generation, the Post noted. The ban further bars the use of heating oil and propane.

The plan is aimed at helping lower-income borrowers afford their monthly mortgage payments – it would do so by forcing people with good credit scores to pay more each month for their mortgages, extra payments that would be credited to the loans of higher-risk borrowers. The controversial policy has been attacked by both Republicans and Democrats, including President Obama’s former Federal Housing Administrator. On Monday, financial officers from 27 states weighed in and said it was clear the policy was a mistake even before it takes effect.
