I love hearing from our readers and supporters. This morning (Saturday) I received two emails that touched and moved me. I share them, edited for privacy, with you all.
The first was from a longtime reader and supporter who was having trouble with her Stripe account and wanted to know what she’d given and when. I wrote back:
As I read the records on my end, you gave a one-time $108 Sustaining Subscriber Contribution via Stripe in November (THANK YOU THANK YOU!). If you want to contribute on a monthly basis also (wow and thank you again!) I think your best bet is to sign up here for the $9/monthly contribution.
Thank you especially for your encouraging words that “we need you more than ever.” Lately I am realizing that the “you” in “we need you more than ever” is a plural that refers to our whole team – me, my indispensable copy editor Tim Page, reporter Mike Bielawski, and social media director Paul Bean – as well as the score of other regular contributors (Mike Donoghue, Aaron Warner, Rob Roper, Allison Despathy, etc. etc. etc.). We are all nose to the grindstone, believing in our mission and our roles in it. I will do this as long as I can (5-10-20 years?) but I will soon collect my first social security check. So that clock is ticking and God alone knows when the alarm will go off and the next phase of my very blessed life begins. Part of my job now is to ensure that the Chronicle will continue, bigger and better.
I hope the Chronicle will ‘make a difference’ to some kind of return to sanity in Vermont. I know we will bear witness daily to what’s going right and wrong and through commentaries and comments section suggest how to do it better. And help the people trying to help. That’s our calling and mission.
Minutes later, I read this email from a Chronicle commenter who asked me what else she can do to make life better in Vermont. What a wonderful question! She wrote:
I seriously am tired of flapping my gums, as my father used to say, or tapping my fingers on a keyboard. I want to show these legislators that they are affecting real people. I just don’t know how or what to do.
I’m open to suggestions. I am tired of being useless and voiceless. I’m tired of representatives like ____ and ____ who are clueless as the latter is and evil as the former is. Sorry, I don’t mean to dump on you. I’m just a roll up my sleeves and get things done kind of person. I can only flap my gums for so long before I need to get busy.
I will not go gentle into that good night.
Well said. The poet Dylan Thomas (photo, top right) would be pleased. And Amen.
I encourage both of these longtime readers and supporters – and everyone else reading this right now who feels the same way: Become Your Own Media. If your media isn’t doing the job, do it yourself! Not everyone can report the news (although it’s not as hard as you might think), but EVERYONE can share it. EVERYONE can (to repeat an imperative coined by Rob Roper) Become Your Own Media. With Paul Bean now doing a bang-up job posting our news and commentary social media, it’s easier than ever. Here’s what you do:
- Sign up for free accounts on both platforms, follow the Chronicle Facebook and X/Twitter pages, and share.
- Share directly from www.Vermontdailychronicle.com.
- Forward your emailed news edition to a group of BCC’d friends on email.
This all costs you no money. Nor need it be limited to the Chronicle. It does take time and effort and courage. But if you are “tired of being useless and voiceless,” then gird up your loins and share your truth. That’s what motivated me to start the Chronicle seven years ago. Many Vermonters already have. You can do it too.

Here is something to put things in better perspective of what is going on….
https://choiceclips.whatfinger.com/2024/02/17/tucker-the-national-security-state-is-the-main-driver-of-censorship-and-election-interference-in-the-united-states/
Guy….job well done…keep it up.
Can’t put this up on Vt Digger…..!!!!!
Guy, hang in there, there are massive forces keeping you from growing. There are massive monetary forces keeping you from becoming successful and reaching out on
Facebook.
If you need boots on the ground to spread print, there are many that would do it for you……it may be the only way to disseminate in for this election period. They will not let the comments or truth see the light of day on the internet….
We know this firsthand.
When we tried to change the conversation with the Green Mountain Party….it was not going to happen, we were stopped by all the media in Vermont, we were not even allowed to use the tools on Facebook, claiming we were not a political party, despite being registered with the state.
We are not in Kansas anymore toto……
The old saying “the pen (keyboard) is mighter than the sword” still holds true. For anyone who thinks we, the People, need to do more, doesn’t fully grasp the type of war we are in currently. They do not recognize who the real enemy is and that enemy has no conscience or qualms of killing and maiming anyone who tries to interrupt or stop their grand Master plan. They kill you with fake kindness and a smile on their face. The enemy is at your front door, in your door yard, and living next door. Too many are still under the delusion that if they just hold firm to deceptive beliefs, things will return to normal. There is no “normal” to go back to – we are at the Red Sea, we are at the Rubicon, we are at the Delaware, we are at Lexington and Concord. Make no mistake, we are at a Great Awakening, but some are still hitting the snooze button.
What can we do? Rebuke. Repent. Do Not Comply. Like, Share and Subscribe Truth. Support businesses and churches that support your values. Speak up respectfully, but firmly and often – regardless if it offends someone, they’ll have to get over it or fail miserably in life. Hold all, including yourself, to account for actions. Stop going along to get along. Sacrifice unnecessary creature comforts. Discern facts over fiction. Read and research beyond mainstream headlines and scripted talking points. Knowledge is indeed power.
Our duty is to expose the fraud and deceptions with documentation and the very words uttered from the split tongues, better known as our elected officials and bureaucrats. It is time to we bind those mouths and shut them once and for all. If they do open their mouths, Truth comes out and nothing less will be accepted.
Keyboard warriors, anons, conspiracy theorists, what-have-you, are all fighting for the human race – the one that truly matters! We are the news now. We raise the standard to uphold what is right. We subvert and remove what is wrong. The battle field is every and all platforms that are not controlled by the seven-headed, ten horned beast.
Fighting for freedom and liberty is messy, disheartening, and gut-wrenching. We’ve had it too easy for too long. All by design. The architects of this design are feeling the heat and leaning back on their heels. If only a small group is pushing them backward, soon there will be many more pushing even harder to topple this evil empire over on it’s backside where it belongs. Hold the line and keep fighting with the swords of Truth and divine authority. Spoiler alert: God wins and 2000+ years of history proves it to be so. The end is not for everyone – only those who defend and speak Truth.
Guy, your timing of this post could not have been more perfect. With the Vt. legislature being so far beyond sane and what the elite are doing to former president Trump, most patriotic US citizens are feeling beaten down. You have provided a cause to stand up and fight for the truth and put this foolishness behind us. Let’s band together and defeat these false profits of Communism. 20% increase in real estate taxes, give up the use of private automobiles, continual increases in the cost of electrify to fuel EVs. The list is long and ill conceived. This cannot stand. Benjamin Franklin expressed it best. We should all hang together or surely we will all hang individually! (Lose translation)
when you draw your first s. s. check , you had better be debt free/// no car payments/// no house payments/// have the ability to repair everything/// and have a pension that will out last inflation/// most people are not in that situation/// this year is going to be very interesting/// the key board thumpers need to confront the crooks in the state house/// talking is not going to fix this problem/// vote down every town and school budget at the march meeting/// this way your vote will count///
I’m afraid ‘voting’ isn’t the primary solution. There are two wolves for every lamb deciding what to have for lunch. This is not to say that we shouldn’t vote. But the first pieces of advice on your list will be more effective. Pay down your debt. Be as self-sufficient as you can be. Earn as little taxable income as possible. Purchase as little as possible. Even if you’re a renter, use the law to your benefit. Play the game.
In the final analysis, I don’t think these ‘deep state’ folks are as smart as they think they are. They wear their incompetence like a cheap suit. They’ll go bankrupt, sooner than later. Just out last them.
If you have the means to leave Vermont… do it. The ship of state is sinking and there’s no point in going down with it if you don’t have to do so. You will actually help the cause by bailing out. When the smoke clears, return if you like.
And no. Don’t go gentle into the night. Just don’t do anything stupid either (e.g., Jan 6). Be as law abiding as you can be. Protest ‘peacefully and patriotically’. As for those of us who can’t leave… well, they’ll have to dispose of me just inside my doorstep.
And listen, while I don’t trust anyone at this point in time, it is prudent, in my opinion, to consider the one guy who has been suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune while exposing this tyranny more than any other in recent history. How Trump remains standing is a wonder to behold. That he is rude and arrogant is beside the point. That the odds of him winning anything may be slim to none is beside the point. It surely takes a giant ego to even assume the deep state cabal can be thwarted. But Trump has put everything he has on the line – his wealth, his family. That should tell us something. After all, how bad can it be if he wins the election? He’d be a one term president. Automatic term limits.
Nevertheless, I think (and yes, this is only my opinion) Trump’s odds of success (and ours too) are better with him as president for a term than with anyone else who says they’re willing to put it all on the line. And if anyone disagrees, let them put their neck on the line.
Flapping gums and tapping fingers is child’s play. At some point, we’ll all have to take a stand, one way or another. I for one, plan on sticking it out here in Vermont, in the house I built with my own hands almost 50 years ago. At least, as Charlton Heston once famously said, ‘until they pry it out of my cold dead hands’.
Trump put everything on the line for his ego. He could care less about the rest of us, even his supporters. He is bad for democracy, the US and the world. I am not a big fan of Joe Biden, but given the choice between just he and Trump, the decision would be easy.
Mr. Milazzo:
If Trump was so bad for democracy (whatever that means), why, under Biden’s administration, do we have higher taxes, higher inflation, higher national debt, a border letting millions of illegal immigrants into the country at taxpayer expense, a break-down of law and order in major cities, and a U.S. international foreign policy in a shambles (Ukraine, Hamas, Iran, and its subordinates)?
Big fan or not – what are some of Biden’s achievements? Do you think Biden has no ego?
And speaking of ‘democracy’ (two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch), would you be kind enough to explain how Vermont Town Clerks verify the signatures on the mail-in ballots they receive, to be sure the registered voter who received the ballot in the mail is, indeed, the person submitting it?
I mean really, be specific. It’s clear you don’t like Trump. But why are you willing to cut off your nose to spite your face?
A diet of propaganda, 24/7/365 makes you regurgitate the craziest things. The human body can only take so much, then it starts spewing out what was put in under force.
Answering, “Why are you willing to cut your nose off to spite your face?” and all the things you hear across our state….
But Neil: Mr. Milazzo didn’t read that propaganda here. If anything, what he reads here is, as often as not, fact based.
So, I’ll restate my question. Mr. Milazzo, why don’t you answer my questions? Set the record straight. If I misconstrue your points, correct my misunderstanding.
Re: “I seriously am tired of flapping my gums, as my father used to say, or tapping my fingers on a keyboard. I want to show these legislators that they are affecting real people. I just don’t know how or what to do.”
Our Founders were confronted with the same conundrum just about 250 years ago.
message to h. j. e.. this is the do not list/// do not show defeat/// do not show weak ness on this web site/// there is long term agenda to wear you down/// there is a lot of unseen money pushing this agenda/// your repts. and senators are bought and paid for/// they do not care about you or your well being/// you must treat them the same way they are treating you/// stop trying to be a nice guy/// you will never win///
We only need to stand in the gap, he will do the rest. We need to be wiser than the snakes and more innocent than doves.
The biggest fear of the uniparty, loving your neighbor, working to solve our own problems. Letting people know and see the truth.
There are no laws against Love, Joy and Peace, to which they cannot win against.
Corruption cannot stand, even if the truth is never found out, corruption collapses upon itself. However, when the people see the truth, the change will be swift and without bloodshed.

Don’t fall for the ‘voting’ hopium. If you think any elected official isn’t on the take…well I’ve got a bridge.
Go Galt. Go Amish. Unplug. Ignore the mass cultural narcissim. Shut off the fake news (all Mainstream news is fake and manipulative.) Reconnect with nature. Don’t eat corporate slop. Cancel cable/dish. I could go on.
