Campaign Statement from Andrea Murray for Senate

Former Vermont Governor Jim Douglas has endorsed Andrea Murray for her bid to be the first Republican to win a senate seat for Windsor County in three decades, according to a statement released by the Murray campaign Friday, August 30. 

Murray is taking on sitting Senators Alison Clarkson and Becca White, both of whom voted to override Governor Scott’s veto to protect Vermonters from record setting property tax increases. 

“It is an honor to receive the formal endorsement of Gov. Jim Douglas, the 80th Governor of Vermont. Thank you, Gov. Douglas, for your support!,” Murray said.  

“Dear Windsor County Residents, I am proud to endorse Andrea Murray for the Vermont Senate representing the Windsor District,” Douglas said. “We need common-sense leaders that will provide balance and prioritize fiscal responsibility. Andrea is precisely that leader. 

“She is a businesswoman, a farmer, mother and wife of a military Combat Veteran who understands the issues that matter most to our families, seniors and businesses. Andrea recognizes the financial pressures of unsustainable tax burdens and the soaring cost of living. She will champion policies that make life more affordable without compromising the quality of essential services. 

Andrea will stand with Gov. Phil Scott to ensure he has the support he needs to sustain his vetoes, maintaining an effective check and balance on our legislative body. I am confident that Andrea will be a dedicated and effective Senator for our state, working tirelessly to craft legislation that promotes balance, affordability, and fairness. I encourage all citizens of Windsor District to vote for and elect Andrea Murray for Vermont Senate.” 

Murray is a resident of Weathersfield where she and her husband maintain a family farm. Her campaign’s focus is to bring balance back to Vermont’s legislature by providing a moderate Republican perspective aimed at lowering unnecessary taxes, focusing on fiscal responsibility and transparency for taxpayers, protecting parent’s rights from state overreach and preserving Vermont’s traditions of small-town independence and vitality, the statement said.
