South Burlington police are investigating the death of a man found unresponsive in a City Hall bathroom early Monday morning.
Emergency responders were called to 180 Market Street, home of the South Burlington City Hall, around 6:05 a.m. on November 4 after someone discovered an unresponsive adult male in a first-floor restroom. Emergency medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.
While the Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death, detectives from the South Burlington Bureau of Criminal Investigation have found no signs of foul play. The preliminary investigation suggests the death was related to a drug overdose.
Police are withholding the victim’s identity until the Medical Examiner completes its determination and the man’s next of kin can be notified.
Detective Sergeant David MacDonough is leading the investigation for the South Burlington Police Department.

How appropriate is this? A man dies of a drug overdose in a city hall bathroom, the very city hall that enabled him with clean needles and a safe injection site.
South Burlington had their “grand opening” of their new city center a while back but now with an overdose death in the public bathroom, it’s official. They have tried their best to isolate and differentiate themselves from their dystopian neighbor to the west, but we shall see if they follow in Burlington’s footsteps by limiting access to public restrooms or by removing the stall doors like they did in the Fletcher Free Library’s upstairs restroom. Custodians of South Burlington’s City Hall take notice…when the toilet wont flush, dont be sticking your bare hands in there to pull out the syringes. Before crying too many tears of empathy for the “victim”, recall that just a few weeks back, just a stone’s throw from that City Hall, a young student at the Marcotte School was stuck with a needle while minding their own business on the school playground.
