State police have identified the two people who died in a Bethel house fire, and the woman who died in a Walden car crash. Both incidents occurred earlier this week. Authorities withheld names pending notification of next of kin.
The bodies of Davis Dimock, 76, and Victoria Weber, 75, were discovered inside their home in Bethel following a fire early Tuesday morning, Dec. 13. The fire was reported at 5:23 a.m. at 2937 Christian Hill Road. Upon arrival, responding fire crews found the two-story brick home with an addition on the back fully engulfed. During their efforts to battle the blaze, firefighters located the bodies of the victims.
Rene Rose, 76, of St. Johnsbury died after a two-car crash on Rte. 15 in Walden the afternoon of Monday, December 12. A 2011 Toyota Corolla driven by Rose was traveling east near the Brookside Drive intersection when it left its lane, struck a guardrail in the eastbound shoulder, and then crossed into the westbound lane.
A 2017 Ford Explorer driven by Mitchell Shatney, 38, of Walden was traveling west on Route 15 and was struck by the Corolla in the westbound lane of travel. Both vehicles came to a point of uncontrolled rest. Rose sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Shatney was transported for treatment of minor injuries.
