Mark Van Buren, 53, of Fairfax died October 20 when his Volvo struck a tractor-trailer head-on in Sheldon.
State Police were notified at 10:25 pm of a two-vehicle head-on collision on Route 105 in Sheldon, just west of the Bedard Road intersection. A Volvo S60 occupied by Van Buren was heading east when it drove into the westbound lane which was occupied by a tractor-trailer. The operator of the TT-unit, Ernest Wilgus, 57, said the Volvo headed towards him and crossed into his lane without warning.
Wilgus tried to stop his vehicle by braking, but the Volvo collided with him head-on. The operator of the Volvo was pronounced dead on the scene. Any drug or alcohol involvement is currently unknown. Both vehicles were towed from the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
