Andrea Murray of Weathersfield, a farmer, mom, and the wife of a combat veteran, on Tuesday, July 9 officially launched her campaign for the Vermont State Senate representing Windsor County.

She is running as a Republican. She is running in the August 13 GOP primary for the three-seat Senate district against Robert Ruhlin, Jack Williams, and Jonathan Gleason. The top three will face the winners of the even more crowded Democratic primary.

In a campaign statement, Murray said that Vermont is at a crossroads and that voters want an alternative to far-left activist agendas. She states, “Governor Scott is supported by the vast majority of voters regardless of party affiliation, and yet the progressive supermajority refuses to partner with him to find common-sense solutions to the financial and housing crisis we are facing. I am running to restore balance in our government and to repair the damage caused by an out-of-control one-party system.”

Murray’s values are rooted in a belief in limited government and the personal freedoms that our state constitution was founded on. Her priorities include making fiscally responsible decisions to protect taxpayers and finding immediate workable solutions for our housing crisis and the unsustainable financial burden on families and businesses, her campaign statement said.

In addressing the ongoing housing crisis, Andrea supports responsible development and policies that limit government overreach, ensuring accessible and affordable housing for all residents.

Murray also is concerned about the current direction of Vermont’s educational system and advocates for a return to a standard curriculum prioritizing core academics. She also emphasizes the importance of parental rights in the upbringing and education of children.

Murray’s journey began in Germany where her father was stationed in the U.S. Armed Forces. Growing up overseas during the Cold War era, she saw first-hand the harsh realities of socialism and communism. This early exposure shaped her deep appreciation for freedom and democracy.

As a military spouse, she navigated relocations and deployments while continuously pursuing her diverse careers. She worked in a military hospital as a Respiratory Therapist, and for over two decades in banking and finance, in addition to owning a successful jewelry business. Now retired, the Murray family returned home to Vermont to run a small farm in Weathersfield, raising beef cattle and chickens, providing food from their farm to the local community.

Murray serves on her town’s Zoning Board and an active volunteer for local organizations. She is a member of the National Federation of Republican Women, the VFW Auxiliary, and the American Pastured Poultry Producers Association. As a licensed foster parent, Andrea is committed to providing a loving and stable home for children in need.

  1. What a gem! Thank you for running. Wishing you great success!

  2. You’ll have my whole family’s vote.. Windsor county has been flooded with progressive candidates and we rarely have a chance to vote for conservatives. If voters don’t start to see the hole liberals have steered us into I don’t know if they ever will. Good luck!!

  3. Sounds good but… I am a Trump republican, and if I can find one running for an office in VT, they will have my vote!

  4. Wish she were running in Lamoille County. But God bless her for stepping up. It sounds like she will be a great asset and blessing to her constituents and to the state of Vermont if she wins, which I hope she does.

  5. Good luck. I wish I could vote for you, but not in your district.

  6. An excellent candidate which will serve Vermont well. Get out and vote for her!

  7. Interesting knowledge about a realist, all the best, it’s needed.

But–will the Vt Rep Party support, they haven’t done so in the past with others. Also will Gov Scott endorse? Doubt it, He’s a RINO and must know great Rep people in VT, but ignores. Can’t get anything passed. Been that way for years.
