Driver dies after accident at hospital

John Hill, 78, of Bennington died when his car struck a medical office building off Rte. 7 in Pownal on the morning of June 13. 

At about 9 am, state troopers responded to a reported two vehicle crash. A Pontiac driven by Hill had pulled onto US7 directly in front of a GMC Sierra driven by Thomas Bator, 56, of North Adams MA. Bator was unable to avoid the collision and crashed directly into the Pontiac’s side door. During the crash, the Pontiac’s accelerator pedal had become stuck causing the vehicle to go out of control and travel across the lawn of the Southern Vermont Medical Center campus. The vehicle had crashed into a large sign and continued, coming to rest against a medical office building.

The Pontiac was totaled during the crash. Hill was transported to SVMC and then to Albany Medical. Hill was transported to SVMC for his injuries and later relayed to Albany Medical for further treatment. The GMC sustained heavy front-end damage and Bator was uninjured.
