A New Haven Elementary school has canceled a planned upcoming DEI unit, including a Drag Queen Story Hour, in response to reported threats against students and staff, Renee McGuinness of the Vermont Family Alliance informed VDC today.
The DQSH was scheduled for Friday, April 10 at the Beeman Elementary School in the Addison County town. The planned event was discussed at a March 4 school board meeting. Concerns about security were the subject of an emergency meeting of the town selectboard this week.
The full statement from Vermont Family Alliance today reads as follows:
“Beeman Elementary has canceled the entire DEI unit due to alleged communications that threaten the safety of students and staff.
“Vermont Family Alliance condemns threatening teachers, school personnel, and students. Any legitimate threats should be investigated and prosecuted.
“While we are pleased that the entire DEI identity unit has been cancelled, the letter from MAUSD Superintendent Patrick Reen and Beeman Elementary school principal Stephanie Sumner expresses intent to continue to teach DEI and LGBTQ+ ideologies embedded in curriculum, which may violate some parents’ beliefs, thus violating their rights under both the First and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution.
“According to the federal Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), parents have a right to inspect all instructional materials to be used in connection with any survey, analysis, or evaluation at school. schools must get express written permission from parents or guardians before a child may be subjected to questioning about mental health, psychological challenges, political affiliations, sexual attitudes, and other topics.
“Parents must continue to be vigilant by requesting to see their child’s curriculum content, opt their children out of lessons they deem inappropriate, insist on an alternative lesson, and report violations to the U.S. Department of Education. Parents have a right to view their child’s curriculum and school records under the Federal Education Rights and Protection Act (FERPA)
“Vermont Family Alliance has resources and recommendations for those seeking guidance and legal assistance in navigating these conversations with school officials, teachers, and staff.”

Until these teachers and schools stop grooming our kids, I’m sure they can expect to be “pressured” pushing this crap. It’s not okay on school grounds, especially around kids that young. These perverts can read books to their gay buddies at their drag clubs. This crap needs to stop, and if it takes a reminder, that parents and the communities will only take so much, so be it. Oh wait, was I supposed to be more politically correct and condemn threats? If you can’t differentiate between right and wrong, expect others to explain it to you, especially when it comes to children. School, teachers, and these perverts should be ashamed of themselves. Disgusting.
If there were actual criminal threats, those would be reported to police. Most likely, they simply “feel” unsafe and then double down on their threat to continue to include diversity in curriculum. Parents need to be vigilant.
Good news!
False flag, unless there is a police report. Most people would not waste the air to speak against this.
Areal truth s likely nobody was interested, and rightfully so.
They will not stop. It’s already breached the golden dome.

I’ll bet you ten bucks there were no actual threats. Would be fun to query the local PD to see if any reports were made. More likely some invented drama to elicit sympathy for the “marginalized”.
Vermont Family Alliance assisted several concerned MAUSD residents in mailing letters to parents of school-aged children notifying them of the planned Identity Unit and their legal right to opt out their children. Beeman was violating federal law by proceeding with plans for an Identity Unit containing controversial subjects and guests without notifying parents of their right to opt out their children. The school must also offer an alternative lesson. So VFA spearheaded the job schools are legally obliged to do under PPRA federal law. Taxpayer dollars should go toward academics, not indoctrination.
I’m happy to hear that pressure caused the event to be cancelled. However, parents do not let your guard down. I expect the content will creep into the classroom. Parents have a right to know what their children are learning. Stand up for your rights, request the curriculum, speak out, and opt out of the lessons that violate your values. I’m also skeptical of actual threats. Any opposing viewpoints are considered to be hateful. Remember that the woke ideology considers opposing views to be violent.
why don’t these folks do a presentation at lunch time at the statehouse
Good Idea Wayne.
As a women I find these “queens” to be incredibly insulting. A women is not a sex pot as they portray women to be here. We are wise, interesting, hard working, smart, we worship Jesus, we travel, cook, do outdoor activities, garden you name it. We are not reduced to over sexualized beings again, as portrayed by these “queens.” I wouldn’t let my kid, male or female anywhere near them. But my kid wouldn’t be in a Vermont state run school anyway. These schools are into indoctrination, not EDUCATION!
Such manufactured outrage. They probably had no real plans to put this on, but just wanted to poke a stick at the concept public decency, especially by having a publicly-funded school play host. There are plenty of adult venues where grown, homosexual men who like to prance about in women’s clothing can do their thing, but some just insist on getting their jollies by doing it in front of small children…so pathetic.
I hope it’s easy for parents to know about inappropriate books in the library and the DEI topics in the classroom. I think it would be easy to miss the presentation of this stuff. I think everybody involved should be fired. Reading, writing, arithmetic. Why do we have to make it all so hard.
the school has been forthcoming since the start, with months of advanced notice. They don’t need to put it in a rag paper so the crazies can come out of the mountains to yell at school kids
Are commenters’ houses all filled with boogey and straw men? Which category of Diversity, Equity, or Inclusion should we get rid of? Can anyone name a specific disability or diversity that we should exclude?
If you’re looking for “Groomers” you’re much more likely to find them at home or at church than at school… statistically speaking of course. Plus teachers are mandatory reporters for all the home and church abuse, an added bonus!
Take a look at all the VT Teachers of the year that were prosecuted.
Josh, if you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you would know that Jesus heals the brokenhearted and binds up all their wounds. JESUS would affirm these children of the sex to which they were born, without gender stereotypes. There are two sexes, male and female. There are physical, chemical, and brain differences between males and females. Any adult that is teaching children that there are multiple genders is delusional and a liar. No doubt children are suffering more than ever because the message of this world is that there are too many people on the planet, we are just animals, and the world is on fire. Add in covid lockdowns in which infants and toddlers, which are now kindergarteners and first graders, were denied the opportunity to learn to articulate and read facial expressions and emotions because of masking policies. Why not give these children the opportunity to consider Jesus instead of censoring Him in schools?
Simple answer, ALL of the DEI crap needs to be removed from our schools and flushed down the toilet (sorry to all you sewer plant operators). The sooner, the better. This forced curriculum takes up teacher time from what the kids all need to become better informed on Reading, Writing, Math and Science (real science). No wonder our kids score so low in the testing. Why aren’t we concerned about that?
Mr Sullivan, Please enlighten the reading audience how having drag queens in an elementary school contributes to a child’s education?
We are talking about adult men turning a simple event like reading to children into a sexualized performance. Why can’t parents and family members with no agenda volunteer to read to children on a rotating schedule? Oh, wait, that alternative wasn’t offered, was it? Or perhaps parents could dress as storybook characters like Bob the Builder or Stella Luna. I would love even as an adult to be read to by a person dressed as the little bat. Then again, things are probably batty enough there.
Draq Queens are not at elementary schools to teach children to read. It is about conditioning them to rebel against family/community norms and exposing them to rainbows of perversions. School tests results show VT’s kids are declining in core learning areas. Drag Queens drag kids down!! That’s the plan.
To Josh Sullivan
With regard to the discontinuation of a particular diversity, I would submit homosexuality and transgenderism collectively. Any of the aforementioned would be welcome in our house of worship, in the hope that the proclamation of the gospel would be a conduit to a change in their world view and ultimately to their personal salvation. On the other hand, that could not be said for the overwhelming majority of Middle Eastern countries with the exception of Israel.
Do I sense a tinge of animosity In your post toward people of faith?
How should gay and trans kids and faculty be made to feel at public school?
How did you shoehorn in a denigration of Muslims and MENA people while calling others to repentance? Collectivism is ugly in every form. And why the random plug for Israel? It’s weird.
I grew up Calvinist, now I’m more into Bonhoeffer’s thoughts on Costly Grace atonement theory. Faith without works is …
Waiting for the DRAG KING STORY HOUR.
Wow peace love and understanding for those around us. Folks. I have never met a drag queen that had a perverse intention unlike others who swore by the book. Can’t we all just get along? If a drag queen reading a book frightens you enough to threaten others, look into home schooling within your friendly neighborhood cult i hear they are looking for new members just cover those ankles we don’t want to give the protectors of our morals when do you tell people that you’re saying about them? Alright, just sorry, my brother job cut me off temporal status. You can hear me the wrong idea.
Renee, nice to be so sure that your denomination is the right one, isn’t it? Faith dies with curiosity, you’ve got it all figured out. only a 1 in 40k chance your denomination is the perfect one, and should be used to indoctrinate kids in school. What if public schools went with a Mormon curriculum?
There are no Christian denominations that teach that there are more than two sexes.
Josh you are making a good argument for removing all government control over education. Otherwise, Christianity and all religions can be taught according to grade level. Young students need the basics: Jesus is our savior; Christianity is the only religion that has a savior and is not works-based. More nuanced discussions belong in high school or college. It’s hard to believe you grew up Calvinist and are “more into Bonhoeffer’s thoughts on Costly Grace atonement theory.” There’s no fruit of the Spirit in you as far as I can tell by your comments.
These activities should be condemned no matter where they occur.
Statistically, a 2004 report commissioned by the Department of Education estimated that nearly one in 10 children are targets of unwanted sexual attention by public school employees at some point during their school age years.
According to the report’s author, “the physical sexual abuse of students in schools is likely more than 100 times the abuse by priests.”
This report was done well before the influences of social media, the advent of Drag Queen Story Hour, or the prevalence of Gender Ideology in the school system.

They’ve trashed the Church St Mall. in my hometown…they need the Statehouse too?
