Doctor challenges Senate incumbent

Dr. Louis Meyers (left) will run for the Senate district in which Sen. Ginny Lyons now holds a seat

by Louis Meyers

I am running for the state senate in the Chittenden Southeast district because I am deeply concerned about our health care system in Vermont. We have taken some wrong turns in recent years, and we seem to now be heading for more of the same.

One of my opponents is Senator Ginny Lyons. Ms. Lyons chairs the Senate Health Committee and is spearheading two major pieces of legislation:

1) She would like to deauthorize the independent Green Mountain Care Board and transfer its regulatory powers to the Agency of Human Services. This would lead to politicization of our health and increased health care costs and further increases in health insurance premiums. Vermonters cannot keep getting hammered with these increases.

2) Ms. Lyons wants Vermont to sign on to a nine-year commitment to a federal reform program called Ahead. Unfortunately, this is almost identical to the failed OneCare program, which has cost Vermont taxpayers hundreds of millions of wasted dollars.

I have been a physician for thirty years and I know that we can create a less expensive and more effective way forward – one that is by and for Vermonters, and does not envelop us in a massive federal program of unproven value. I look forward to an open debate on these issues in the coming months.

  1. Where are the press releases from our conservative and/or Republican candidates running for office in Vermont? I mean, is Gerald Malloy the only conservative candidate out there? Hey VT GOP… are you out there? Or out to lunch? Or have you all crawled back into the Never-Trump cave of oblivion?

How about you Trump supporters? Or have the reasonable among us already moved abroad… to NH or FL or TN? If I were younger, I’d give it a shot. I’m not as old as Bernie. But hey, that’s not much consolation, now is it. On the other hand, Peter Welch and I are the same age. But again, haven’t we had enough of the old and feeble-minded.

Hello! Are there any energetic Vermont conservatives out there?

    • Run for office. Don’t ask others to run unless you’ve run yourself.

  2. question/// did dr. louis meyers do a press release about the danger of the covid kill shot/// inquiring minds want to know///

  3. The Mount Peculier swamp is in bad need of draining so the present swarm of blood sucking mosquitoes and leeches is depleted. It’s always amazed me how people can complain about under, and misrepresented, and yet they keep voting the same people in. A good example of the definition of insanity ? We need a shake up. Send the Socialists packing !

  4. This is good news. I’ve heard Dr. Meyers in the past on the Morning Drive Show and found him to be a person who cares deeply about Vermont and Vermonters. I didn’t agree with all his statements but I did respect him for being open with his beliefs. On the other hand, I have no respect for Sen .Ginny Lyons who appears to be totally controlled by Planned Parenthood. She doesn’t want minors to vape but thinks it is all right for 12 year old to get std vaccinations and treatment without parental knowledge or consent.

  5. While I am for electing REAL Trump republicans if one can be found, Dr. Louis Meyers cannot be a worse choice.

  6. It will be good for Vermont if Sen. Lyons is voted out of office. I just hope Dr. Meyers will propose commons sense legislation which truly promotes the health and life of every person, born and preborn.
