A Waltham man is dead after a car driven by a drug-impaired 21-year-old Charlotte man turned into the path of his motorcycle, state police say. The allegedly drug-impaired driver was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert. After giving police a blood sample, he was cited to appear in court.

Yesterday at 5:15 pm, State Troopers responded to a car vs. motorcycle crash on VT Route 17 E near the intersection with Meadow Brook Drive in Starksboro. Initial investigation indicates a car driven by Calvin Morse, 21, of Charlotte was traveling west in a 2017 Toyota Highlander when he attempted to make a left-hand turn. A motorcycle driven by George Hallock, 38 of Waltham was traveling east on a 2002 Honda and struck the passenger’s side of Morse’s car. Hallock was ejected from his motorcycle and both vehicles were totaled. Hallock was transported by ambulance to UVM Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

While speaking with Morse, Troopers detected drug impairment. Morse was placed under arrest and transported to the Vergennes Police Department to be evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert. Morse was then transported to Porter Medical Center, where he consented to provide a sample of his blood. At the conclusion of processing, Morse was released with a citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division.

The Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by members of the Starksboro Fire Department, Starksboro First Response, Bristol Rescue and Richmond Rescue.
