A previously convicted sex offender from Lyndon swiftly resolved his latest criminal case with a guilty plea in Caledonia Superior Court on Monday, the Caledonian-Record reports.
Edward Cram, 70, admitted to felony charges of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child (second offense) and attempting to lure a child into a sexual act.
Cram had originally been scheduled to appear before Judge Kainen for a weight-of-the-evidence hearing, where his attorney, Jennifer Cleveland, would have argued for his release from jail while awaiting trial. The hearing would have also required State’s Attorney Jessica Zaleski to present evidence supporting the prosecution’s case.
Instead, Cram opted to change his plea, effectively avoiding further pretrial proceedings. The swift resolution of the case underscores the strength of the prosecution’s evidence and brings an end to what could have been a prolonged legal battle.
Cram’s sentencing date has not yet been announced, but given the nature of his charges and prior conviction, he could be facing a significant prison sentence.
Embezzlement in NEK – State Police have charged a Newport Center woman with embezzlement following an extensive investigation into unauthorized financial transactions within the Westfield Fire District.
Kelly Randall, 46, who served as the district’s treasurer, is accused of writing numerous unauthorized checks between 2020 and 2024. Authorities say many of these checks were deposited directly into Randall’s personal bank account, totaling more than $60,000 in fraudulent transactions.
The investigation, which began on December 3, 2024, uncovered a pattern of financial misconduct, leading to the issuance of a citation for Randall on March 10. Randall is scheduled to appear for arraignment at Orleans County Superior Court on April 22, 2025.

Concrete shoes.
New legislation should include mandatory life in prison without parole for a second conviction of sex crimes involving a child.
Vermont authorities refuse to investigate this.
